GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800 Microwave Model # JVM1870SF001

When you grasp the door handle, there is (was) a little black plastic insert on the back of the handle approximately 6 1/4 inches long.  One of the tabs on this plastic part that fits into the stainless steel handle that has broken and come loose. I want to replace just that plastic part and not buy an entire door handle assembly for $200+ dollars.
The part number on this plastic piece appears to be DE63-00204A.
Is it possible to replace just that plastic piece?
Please reply to twagner0315@mac.com.  Thanks!

Same here. The black plastic piece from behind the door handle has broken off on our GE Profile Spacemaker microwave.

Sorry, but the subject lines get cut off after so many characters.

Thanks for replying.

Part # DE63-00204A looks like a valid Samsung part number but it doesn't show up anywhere, so it's likely a proprietary part made only for GE and not available separately.

You can see a helpful exploded view of this model here.

Then you can go here and enter your model number and come up with the parts list. This site has much better prices than GE.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

Chances are you will end up having to but more than you want to, but not the whole door.

GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800 microwave turntable

The turntable system consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours is not set to be off via the control panel, and it won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

On some, you have to cut the motor cover off with snips, then use a screw when reassembling it.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

I have a Samsung SMH9187ST microwave, it is about 2 years old. The door won't stay closed. It is worthwhile to try to fix it or should I just replace it?

If you can lift the plastic door latch catches with no resistance, it is most likely the spring/plastic connector. I removed the door by lifting up, pulling the bottom forward, and lowering. I removed the inside black plastic bevel with a jewelers flat screw driver, prying from the latch side's external edge. Once it was started, I could pull it of with a gentle lift. I took out the black plastic latch, drilled a hole near the broken piece and all was good. Samsung is not on my radar for any future purchases. This is the 3rd major purchase that barely made it past warranty or not even thru warranty.

The handle on my GE Profile XL1800 Spacmaker Microwave is broken off. Can it be replaced or do I need a whole new door?

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

XL1800 is not the model number, which is located on the tag inside the cooking cavity and will be something like JVM1861SH001, etc.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

The bottom portion of the handle just cracked. It's still attached at the top, but I want to replace it before that weakens too. Is it something I can do myself with limited "fix-it" skills? GE Profile -...

The door handle can easily be replaced without the assistance of a repairman. This is a common problem with some microwave oven doors.

To access the door handle mounting screws on MOST microwave ovens, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the plastic up and work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you will need to purchase a new door.

The door handle screws are located behind the inner panel. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel carefully and gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place.

This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, simply open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches.

Replacement parts can be found at any of the following sites:

I hope this helps you.
