My computer doesn't recognise my D: drive when I click on My Computer

insert a good quality dvd in the drive. If no response, go to my computer and select dvd drive and double click, it may open. GL

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

Try to click MY COMPUTER icon, if you're able to see your CD-ROM drive then the problem is with the CD, or after clicking MY COMPUTER and you're not able to see CD-ROM drive then it must not properly configured or the cable connection is not properly attached.

you need to check if the drive is Cd rom or a DVD rom if you try to play a DVD on a Cd rom it wont play, IF you are doing everything right then
try this
Go to my computer i mean right click on my computer and click on properties and then hardward tab >> and device manger>> and under DVD and cd right click on it and uninstall it and restart the system

1. Make sure you use DVD's in good condition.
2. Reinstall the driver..( right click My Computer->properties->Hardware tab -> Device manager-> DVD rom-> right click Uninstall and again install using Dvd rom driver cd)
3. Clean The Drive lens using Dvd lens cleaner disc kit available in maket.
4. Removing DVD rom. opening it up manually and cleaning the lens with cotton( this tedious for novice users.. instead give it to servicing shop)

does the pc recognise the cd drive , if it does but still not recognise the disk,s then its maybe faulty , replacement dvd drives are soo cheap , £25 ans easy to fit , if you can not see the drive in "my computer" the click start.right click my computer,click properties.click hardware and then device manager.scrool down ,look for dvd/cd rom drives or any yellow question mark???, click item and properties and go from there ,
