I've had this unit for a while now, and I should have returned it when after about 2 months it started acting funny. Now its so bad that I can't change CD's or see the display. If the face actually does come down & I can see the display, it doesn't help because after that the controls are useless until the car is shut off & restarted again, when the faceplate goes back up itself. I can't turn it off, turn the volume up or down, change the station or skip a song... nothing.

had the same problem with my alpine, i was able to fix it once by,
popping off the face plate and with fine grit sand paper (lightly) sand
the connection points on
the radio and the face plate, then put a little bit of dialectic grease
on it . also doing a reset on the unit helped me from time to time...

have the exact same problem. I called the Kenwood tech line and the tech reported that the ribbon cable is probably broke. It is the flex cable between the head unit and the rotating face plate. He said it's not an expensive fix but we would need to mail it to a service center if you're like me and not near one. I just replaced mine with a new unit. It was about time anyways.
Same problem as yours with my deck. Bought the deck a month ago, turned car on in the morning face plate does not move down, music plays everything ok but can not access the cd or move the plate regadless button pushing. Have you tried the reset button? Hold it for 3 seconds ( ball point pen to press the button above power button) U will lose the presets but Oh weel. I am going to remove power completey from the unit later on today, and if it still has issues I am returning it for a replacement ( Bought it form Best Buy) L8R
I have now gone through 3 of these units and encountered that exact same issue. The first came from a Tweeter store, the second from Ebay, and arrived with a CD stuck in it (I returned it), and the third from Ebay, ad that one just broke last week. It clicks when I try to load a CD.
The only reason that I kept buying them is because I have an old BMW, and the black face and orange/amber illumination match my interior exactly. I am trying to contact Clarion, but the 'support' link on the site is not active. I tried to remove the stuck CD from the first unit to no avail. Basically, it is broken, and even if you remove the CD, the load/eject mechanism is broken and you can no longer play a CD in that unit.
