Question about HP Printers & Copiers

4 Answers

I have an hp LaserJet 3300. I reads "Scanner Bulb Warming Up" in the window. It then begins to make a galloping noise. It will print from the computer but nothing else. The galloping sound goes continuously. What ails this thing and how do I fix it?

I tried Sareenath's suggestion but still have the problem. I moved the sweep bar out 1 inch, then again, and again. Each time the bar goes back to it's original position and begins galloping sound.

GOOD JOB GUYS KEEP UP THE GREAT ADVISE! NO B.S. youre almost better off running to staples and picking up a new one for around $100 they keep the prices low so they can get you on the inks later on ;(.... sounds like a gear or toothed cable may have a dead spot ,open the case and take a look then throw it out the window and buy a new one ..lol im just kinding good luck and best wishes -jeff

Scanner Bulb Error message is received as a result of the HP LaserJet 3300mfp series product scanner’s inability to find the home reference point. SOLUTION:Perform the following steps to walk the scan assembly from the home base and resolve the issue.

  1. Remove and replace the power cord from the unit.
  2. Wait approximately 35 seconds for the scanning assembly to “walk out? and then quickly remove the plug again.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2, three to four times until the head moves approximately 1 inch away from its normal resting place.
  4. Replace the plug and let the product fully finish the boot cycle.
If this does not resolve the issue or the issue returns, upgrading the product firmware may help. The firmware upgrade can be found at the HP Web site Downloads, Drivers, and Notifications page .
Thanks

Hey,

It sounds as the lamp is stuck, if you open the cover do you see the lap nudging alittle back and front?

This might be fixyable by opening up the cover and clearing the jam.

or if the bulb is faulty it would need to be replaced but in most cases, people just buy a new scanner / printer becouse the repair price goes around the price of a new printer.

Scanner Error - Power On Power Off

Hello,

The "scanner warming up" error is usually caused by dirty glass or mirrors in the scanner assembly. Here is a link to a step by step guide that tells how to open the scanner unit and clean the optics to clear the error.

Scanner bulb warnning

Hello,

The 'scanner warming up' error is caused by dirty scanner optics. What happens is the scanner initializes the lamp and starts reading the scanner pickup waiting for the light to get to a certain brightness level. When the optics get dirty from dust or smoke then the light getting to the scanner pickup is reduced so the unit thinks the scanner bulb has not reached the correct brightness so it says wait. What you will need to do is dis-assemble the top portion and clean the scanner optics. We have a step by step guide to do this procedure posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/hp-laserjet-3330-scanner-warming-up-error/ This should get you back going again.

I hope this helps you out, if so please rate our solution.

Will not print. Message says

Your scanner bulb is not warming up. It would cost more to repair it than buying a new printer.

Press the < or > button until Configuration Report appears in the control panel display and press Menu/Enter. The product will exit the menu settings and print the report.

Close all applications and TSRs before running the firmware update.

Simultaneously, press and release the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys to open the Close Program window.

Highlight one item and click End Task.

Repeat this procedure until all programs are closed, except for Explorer and Systray.

If using an HP LaserJet 3330 (the fax model), disconnect the phone line from the device to prevent interruption from an incoming fax.

Verify that the computer has 50 MB of free disk space in order to successfully run the Firmware Update Utility.

The utility can run using either a parallel or a USB connection (USB is not supported in Windows 95 or NT):

If using a USB cable, it is important to first install the HP LaserJet 3300 MFP series software before running the utility (the USB ports and connection are established during the software install).

If using a parallel cable, simply attach the cable and the utility will find the connection automatically.

Save the setup of the unit if a large number of speed dials or other special configurations have been entered.

NOTE: A speed dial report could be printed instead, if the printer is not connected to a computer or if the software is not installed.

Select Start, Programs, HP LaserJet 33xx, Tools, then HP LaserJet Device Configuration to open the HP LaserJet 3300 device configuration.

Click Save to File on the lower left of the General tab.

Proceed with the upgrade.

Restart (reboot) the HP LaserJet 33xx device.
Download the HP LaserJet 3300 Firmware Update for Windows from the HP Web site. Click here to download the Utility from www.hp.com.

Begin the upgrade.

Double-click the file named lj3300fwutilitywin-en.exe. When the file opens, click the Start button and allow the utility to run uninterrupted. The product display will initially read Printing Document. After about a minute, the product display will read Updating. Several minutes later the display will change to Completed. The display will then change to Scanner Bulb Warming Up as the new firmware initializes.

Finally, the display will show Ready in the top-left corner. Depending upon the operating system on the PC, the software might prompt Please reboot your Computer. Close the screens by clicking OK.

Reboot the PC, if necessary.

Take the original document that was copied at the beginning and copy it again to compare results. If further assistance is needed, contact HP at 1-800-HPINVENT (1-800-474-6836).

Print a new Configuration page to confirm the new firmware date code.
If speed dial settings were backed up, check to see if they remain in the machine. If they are now blank, restore the configuration with the following steps.

Select Start, Programs, HP LaserJet 33xx, Tools, then HP LaserJet Device Configuration to open the HP LaserJet 3300 Device Configuration.

Click Retrieve from File on the lower left of the General tab.

Select a destination and a file name to open (the file that was saved previously; see Step 7 above).

Hello,

Here is a link to a file from the HP web site. This explains how to open your scanner assembly and clean the scanner mirrors. These instructions are provided as-is. I have used them to repair many of these units with your problem, but because of the technical difficulties in opening your printer and performing the repair we accept no responsibility. You can download the instructions here,

If you scanner error 5 or printer hangs at scanner bulb warming up than the issue is with Scanning Assembly inside the printer and it is hardware issue.
