Question about Hitachi 50V720 Television

Red tint covers entire screen

Hi,

I have a Hitachi 50V720 television, and after the lamp had been replaced a red spot appeared in the middle of the screen which slowly over time has spread to almost the entire screen. I have tried settings modifications to no avail, and am considering purchasing a new set at this point as many of the reports I have read indicate this is a light engine issue.

Is this indeed the case, and if so, what does it generally cost for a light engine repair? Or is there something I can do internally to correct this?

Thank You
Brad

I purchased my television in September of 2006. No extended warranties were purchased.

Can I still purchase an extended warranty even with the set being so far past the manufacturer's warranty? And, is this truly an excellent set as you say? Because I am really contemplating buying new.

Well if you like to repair it for yourself , I would recommend going to the following link and getting the service manual so he can see first hand disassemble instructions and testing procedures. Its only 10.99 and they email it to you shortly after purchase. The manual is a valuable resource as it will have part numbers in case you do need a new parts . heres the link.

There is more info from this link as well. Read the last post and contact the vendor to see if thay have a recondition light engine at a lower price if you decide to fix your TV.

  • Jaime Hernandez Sep 04, 2008

This defect is a manufacturers defect as stated in this link, read post #1558; you might want to get in touch with Hitachi and let them know that you are aware of the manufacturers defect with the LE on these DLPs.

I think your TV set combine projection and LCD technology, if you already replaced the lamp, that would have been first suspect on other projection models, It is likely to be LCD or polarizers burning out. This is common on LCD projection technology TVs, and cause colored spots forming on the screen.

It means that the fault is not related with the projector, but with the LCD panel.
LCD polarizer is an anti reflection and anti glare screen placed on top of the LCD, a typical fault on this part causes colored spots on the screen.

Parts for this excellent TV set are expensive, before replacing a part would be better to get an on field technician there, to check the tv.

If you need to call a repairman you can use the number listed at the back of the user manual.

If you need to buy parts insert model number on this website or give them a call :

    TV parts at PartStore.com

To give you an idea here is reddish shadow (on blue screen) from faulty polarizer:

Here is the faulty light engine picture:

Light spot in the picture was white, but a faulty light engine can also give you red or blue light spot.

If you call service they will tell you it is the light engine. This will cover them in case there is to do an expensive repair job, in case there is in facts a problem with light engine.
Replacement light engine is over $1000.

You need to diagnose the problem precisely, then you proceed replacing the right part.

An extended guaranty for your TV will cost about $250/$300 and will cover you for two years. Contact hitachi cuatomer service to purchase extended guaranty.

Here is link to product registration. (link above does not work)

It says:"By registering your product, you will automatically
be enrolled in Product Support Central. As a member of Hitachi's Personal
Product Portfolio, you will have access to extended warranty programs, product
manuals, and support for your product.
    "

Register the product then buy extended warranty.

Contact them at 1-888-269-6432 and apply for extended guaranty.

Here is Hitachi Customer Service page

If you click on Warranty Registration Then you select lcd projection you get same form.

Often you can buy extended guaranty even when original one is expired, call hitachi and ask about their policies.

Red tint to screen

If the model is a 50v500 the real question should be does the set have a red oval area in the middle of the screen (entire screen not red)---if the entire screen is red you have a chance---it has a red oval area and it needs a new optical light engine----you will have options also but limited if that is the case.

I have replaced my lamp in my Hitachi 50V720 and the lamp light keeps flashing.

Make sure that the lamp door cover is properly seat-in. It has a safety switch that will engage to the lamp door cover. If the lamp door cover is not properly seat-in this switch will be on open position that will trigger the symptoms.

Replaced the lamp on a hitachi 50V720, single lamp bulb is flashing red...how do you reset the new bulb?

Hi,no reset, Just make sure the Box (Lamp Enclosure) is pushed in firmly on both sides, left and right. Left side to hit the power connection and Right side to hit the little relay switch, Must be flush against that back side.
it happened to me and I was kicking myself in the ***, a entire weekend went by with a brand new lamp sitting in the enclosure but not completely set in correctly with a flashing red light.

Also get the outside lamp cover in just right where it touches the sensor and sits flush. That's what helped for me.

Good luck.

Hi:
This is not a issue with the lamp. this is an indication the the optics engine needs replacing, you can purchase or have the optics engine rebuilt at a company call www.tristatemodule.com.

BLUE SPOT OR HAZE

We had this problem with our Hitachi and it slowly spread. Turns out it was a bad lamp/bulb and needed to be replaced. But the repair man told us the spots are usually red, so a lot of repair men might misdiagnose the problem.
