I have a Dell Dimension C521 computer. I need to replace the Cmos battery but I cannot find out what the number is without taking the computer apart first. I would like to go buy one and then take the computer aprt

You do not need to pull apart your computer.I suggest you remove the cover off your computer to identify the BIOS battery so you do not buy the wrong one. Most motherboards use a coin size lithium battery type CR2032.

You do not need to pull apart your computer.I suggest you remove the cover off your computer to identify the BIOS battery so you do not buy the wrong one. Most motherboards use a coin size lithium battery type CR2032

Replace cmos battery on dell c521
Hello, Open the case of the computer and look for the battery on the motherboard, slide the battery out and put a new one in it. You will have to reset the bios and the date and time.

The CMOS battery on most computers is a typical watch battery. Most likely a 2032 or a 2025. Open your PC case with the power turned off. You should see a round battery on the motherboard. Take it out and bring it to a watch / electronic store. They will have a battery for you.

How to reset cmos in c521 dell
Hello Friend, Follow the procedures in Before You Begin[Click here].
  • Reset the current CMOS settings:
  • Locate the 2-pin CMOS jumper (RTCRST) on the system board. See Jumper Locations [Click here]
  • Remove the jumper plug from pin 1.
  • Place the jumper plug on pins 1 and 2 and wait approximately five seconds.
  • Replace the jumper plug on pin 1.
  • Replace the computer cover.[Click here]

I have a dell C521 tower,switch it on but light stays on orange,fans work but it wont switch on.help.
Hi,
if the light remains Orange, Possible In Standby/Sleep/Hibernate Mode.
Try pressing And Holding The power Button For 4-5 seconds Or more.
If this Fails, remove the power Cable, remove side-panel ( Unless Warranted ) locate the silver cmos battery, on the motherboard. remove the battery for 10 seconds, replace and repower and startup. failing this i,d suspect the ram/memory or cpu.

Is there another message besides the F1 or F2 prompt?

Does it happen to mention CMOS settings at all? Usually this will happen if your CMOS battery has died, and will be fixed upon replacement. It is normally a CR2032 lithium battery, easily obtained at radio shack, walmart, etc. and super easy to replace.

take off the hard drive that you just placed and see what happens without it.

I think u shorted the board, did you fit the hard drive's power the right side? if not shorted everything...
