Question about Samsung Televison & Video

Sudden noise started that sounds much like a fan wearing out. Stops when I turn off the HL-R5667 TV. Is there an easy way to find and repair the problem?

Could possibly be the color wheel, as if it were the cooling fan the noise would continue for a few minutes after shutting the set off. You can get replacement color wheels at the following link with free tesch support to explain how to install them yourself.

Samsung 56" DLP HL-R5667 turns off/on randomly

I have seen this problem before, from memory it has something to do with the powerup (my words) transistor. It's a relatively simple cheap part but can be fidgety to fix. It cost my parents approx $180AUD. Soldering these parts on can easily destroy nearby components even though there are YouTube videos on how to do it...DONT! Good luck & get estimated quotes on the phone, some won't give, most will.

The tv usually turns on but all of a sudden it won't. When it does turn on it makes a loud noise like a boat. Someone told me its the fan but I'm not 100% sure though. The noise stays on until the tv

Sounds like the motherboard on the TV has failed. Would recommend replacing the TV or taking it to a TV repair shop which may cost more than just replacing it.

It sounds like a bad color wheel (see photo) which will give a fan like or high pitched sound.

Very common on these sets and can be a do it yourself repair.

You Tube has complete video instructions for replacement for most of these models.

The wheel turns at over 12,000 rpm (very small part) and the bearings in the motor fail causing a fan like or whine noise.

If it fails all the way and shatters (it can) set will not even make it on---set is monitoring the wheel and if not at right speed or stops almost instant shutdown will happen.

see the photo and let me know if questions--replaced a lot of them and your description is classic.

TV will not come on. Tries to start, no pic, then shuts itself off. Humming sound like fan runs for a while and then stops.

This tv have a colors wheel is dead, require a new colors wheel replacement.Tv humming, loud squiling or motor noises and picture flashes black&white within the picture. The problems is the colors wheel are worn out or warp and it not spinning correctly in it motor joints anymore,it is the tv causes.Call the tv repair shop for a tech. to repair and replacement of the colors wheel. This job,it not simple, must take out alots of machanicals parts, even come to the colors wheel itself to replace it.

There is a whining sound upon powering up my HL-P6163W which softens after about 5 minutes, but doesn't disappear completely. I think the source is either the color wheel or the cooling fan. How can I...

It the Colors wheel, cooling fan will shut down,if it start making noise to the fan, because the whole projection egine and the bulb link to it.The fan have to run a certain RPM to keep the tv running without problems. These colors wheels run 1000 RPM to start to give the tv colors and it make out Flexy glass and plastics. What ur opinion, who will give u the problems, first as parts wise.Ok any noises like whinning in the tv alway the colors wheel starting to buckle and warp.Getting worse make motor noises and briddles enough will brake and shatter it into ten of hundred of pieces.Who know, than inside what else will cause the rythum of the RMPS running of the tv,when u replaced it.

TV has started to make a really loud humming noise, then sounds like a siren noise after you turn it off and now it has started to turn off by itself. Thinking maybe a fan? Worried it may cost more to have...

It could be 1 of 2 fans (fans are around $30.00 each) or more likely it is the color wheel beginning to fail. Color wheel will cost around $180.00-200.00, plus labor. I would recommend calling 1-800-samsung to find the nearest service center. Part should take an hour to an hour and a half to complete repair.

Cooling Fan noise

Another possible source for the noise is the Color Wheel. It is spinning at a high rate and the noise will get louder as it wears out. You should be able to replace the part yourself. Take a look here first: http://www.fixya.com/support/t372149-samsung_hlp4663w_color_wheel_replacement

Humming noise

There are only two moving parts in this set. The fans and the color wheel. Typically when the color wheel starts to break or go on the fritz, the tv stops working. Count your blessings you've still got the picture. Open the back and turn the tv on. The color wheel is located on the optics block tray. The fans are very visible with the back off. Stop the fan for a second and see if the sound goes away. If not, you might want to start looking around for a replacement color wheel. Rivervalleyelectronics.net is a good place to start. Sometimes Discountmerchant.com carries them too. Be aware that there two different wheels available. If the fan is the culprit of your problem. Radioshack will likely have a replacement for you. If you need further help, post a comment or email me and I'll send you pictures of what to look for. Cfoley@hawaii.rr.com
Good luck.

Sounds like you lost the High Voltage. The beating sound is the power supply trying to start up. After a predetermined time it will quit to protect the set. This is a very common problem and typically not that much to repair. If you are not an electronics repair technician you should find a reputable repair shop and enlist their services. I would not think the cost should exceed $150.00 to repair. Good luck.
