Whatever you do, don't use pliers to turn the item that is broken. Once the post is mutilated to a pulp, it will make it harder and harder to fix.

If it's just the plastic knob that's broken, go to the following link to find one like yours.

http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/airconditioners/sunbeam/sunbeam-knobs.html

Or check your Owners Manual concerning how to get replacement parts.

Ac was blowing freezing air in my 2007 ford 500 sel I turn the defroster on heat and switched back to ac now it's only blowing hot air! It has freon and compressor is good please help

I am not familiar with your dash layout. But depending on whether you have a full digital dash or a mechanical knob to make your settings, some Ford products have knobs which break behind the knob. You get rotation on the knob when you turn it, but the shaft that it is suppose to turn behind the knob will slip and not make any adjustment. So instead of being a repair of expensive electronics it can be a broken plastic knob.

Hot air blows thru the vents all the time

Just fixed this problem on my '06 Sentra. The AC lines were freezing cold so I figured the system was cooling with no problems but the cold air wasn't getting to the cabin for some reason. I put a snake camera in through the vent behind and to the left of the glove box(you have to remove all of the panels) and saw that the cable that gets pulled/released when you turn the hot/cold knob had broken off from the retaining clip. This caused the whole line to move when the knob turned meaning that the cable wasn't actually being pulled in when turning the knob to cold. I pulled the center dash and CD player out and the cable was right there so I secured it in place with a zip tie. Everything works like new now.

Lancer ES 2003 Hot/Cold knob won't turn. Snaps back to where it previously was. Mechanic said would be very expensive to replace all cables and doors opening and closing air ducts. I'm wanting to try...

You have a broken mounting at the end of the cable,at the housing thats why the temp. control knob doesnt work, you can remove the center console to gain access to pivot the broken piece manually and try to modify it so you can attach the cablr

Heater/AC control no longer allows change in temperature

You have one of two possible problems.

1) The temperature shaft retention nut is loose behind the knob

2.) The wires to the potentiometer part of the temperature may be broken.

Either one is common to this vehicle. The replacement of the AC controller is about 900 dollars. If the wires are broken, they can easily be reattached to the circuit board via soldering. What you would have to do is remove the control box from the dash, and disassemble it. Once the unit is apart, there are 3 wires from the temp knob to the circuit board that need to be re-soldered. The unit CAN be repaired, as opposed to the expense of replacing it.

2002 Toyota Highlander AC main control

Before tearing out the AC control, does the temp knob feel loose or wobble alot more then the fan knob? If so pull the temp knob straight off. Look at the small nut around the shaft the knob came off of. Its common for them to come loose. Just tighten it up some and reinstall the knob. Your temp will work normally now.
This fix is for the manual system not the auto ac system.

Dash Control Unit Replacement

You can save a LOT of money by fixing it yourself.

All that is wrong with the knob are broken wires from the knob's PC board to the main PC board on the AC control.

All you have to do is remove the AC main control, take it apart, and resolder the broken wires from the PC board with the knob on it, to the main AC pc board. There are 3 wires, any number could be broken.

If you take it apart and solder the broken wires, this WILL fix your issue. Just make sure you put the wires back exactly where they go.

A FIXYA rating (4 blue diamonds) would be most appreciated for my assistance.
