Question about Epson Stylus Photo R300 InkJet Printer

My Epson Stylus R300 will not print black

Just out of the blue my printer won't print black - I've changed the cartridge (although the other wasn't empty) but still no luck. It prints colour but black is completely illegible. One day it was working fine and then wham! Any suggestions?

I replaced ALL cartridges and purchased Epson head cleaner as suggested on your site - followed those instructions and now barely anything at all is printing in the nozzle check - no black and vague colours. So the problem has increased!

I have just tried printing a test page - I get a blue blob above an extremely faint microsoft flag and no text printed at all - is it the print head, the wiring or what?

  • Delisha Sep 13, 2008

None of the suggestions make any difference. Why would it suddenly happen - one day it was working FINE and the next - wham. There was no indication - like fading print or anything like that. Then as I've triued each suggestion, it has got worse. Do I have to get professional help?

Thanks for all the suggestions - I have decided to get a new printer!

Hi,
Hate to say this my friend , but the printers' dead. Rather than, spending more on this printer, its best to replace it. You can also contact epson support in case they have any replacement parts for the printer. The obvious problem is the print head's gone bad.

After changing (genuine) cartridges and performed print-head cleaning from the computer at least 3 times consecutively, the printer needs servicing / replacement (if warranty permits).

Known fact (any printer make) : Having your printer repaired costs more then having a new one.

  1. Open your application program.

  2. From the File menu, click Print.

  3. If you see a Setup, Printer, or Options button, click it. If not, simply continue with the next step.

  4. Make sure your printer model is selected and then click the Properties or Preferences button. A printer properties or preferences window should appear.

  5. Click the Main tab.

  6. In the Mode section, click the radio button labeled Automatic.

  7. Click the OK button.

Hi,

1. Make sure the printer is plugged in but not printing.

2. Click "Start", point to "Settings", then select Printers.

3. Right click the "Epson Stylus Printer " icon and click "Properties" from the menu that appears.

4. Click the "Utility" tab, then click the "Ink Cartridge Replacement" button.

5. Follow the instructions on the screen to replace the ink cartridge.

6. Wait several minutes until the printer has completed charging the ink before resuming printing.

The problem is either with the black cartridge or with black printheads.

First test a new black cartridge, possibly original, to ensure it is not the cartridge.
Perform a print head cleaning procedure using the printer tools in Winsdows, do this a couple of times.
If it did not work you will need to replace the print head or to take the printer to a repair shop.

If the problem is on black ink only, and color prints fine, than that means (once you replaced cartridge and cleaned heads) that you need to replace the print head. Any other faulty part would have affected both black and color printing.

As already stated replace the black print head or have it replaced.

More: the problem has increased because you cleaned the faulty printer head in cleaning solutions. This opened more the orifices, and now the faulty print head is spraying more ink then before.

Note, if you cleaned the part in solution, ensure you dried it properly before mounting it back, otherwise that can also be a cause for the problem.

    A wiring problem is excluded,

A possible cause for stains is printer dirty inside with ink, in this case the stains appear in place not related to ink distribution in printout, and usually the are always in same sheet area.

If printout comes out with right proportions ( you have text lines and microsoft logo in right place, even if blobbed), and you can exclude the cartridge (ensure), the most likely is printer head, in rare case you get ink problems from defective controller pcb, but that is really unfrequent.

None of the suggestion did make any difference?
Lets be honest, you have a faulty printhead, if you do not replace it, that wont make any difference!!!

    Thanks for using Fixya.

My epson stylus cx6000 has stopped printing black. I've cleaned the print head, changed the cartridge and it still won't print black. What else can I do?

Be sure you are using genuine epson ink. Epson printers are "smart" and will not allow generic ink to work properly. Even after you replace a generic with a genuine it may take several print outs and alignments to get it to print again.

Check the following thread, it might apply to your problem. and just as a printer can be fooled to show a low level ink, I guess it can happen the other way around. http://www.fixya.com/problems-solutions/t103191,p342983/Epson-Stylus-Photo-R300-InkJet-Printer.aspx Good luck
