No low beam. Good high beam. No day lights. What's wrong?


No on the fuse . The LH HDLP and RH HDLP fuse in the fuse block - under hood, supply battery positive voltage to both low and high beam lamps at all times. For manual operation, when the headlamp switch is in the ON position, the headlamp switch supplies ground directly to the headlamps and to the body control module (BCM) on the headlamp low or high beam signal circuit, depending on the position of the headlamp dimmer switch. The BCM uses this signal to determine if the conditions are present to illuminate the daytime running lamps or park lamps.
The headlamps may be turned on 2 different ways. First, when the driver places the headlamp switch in the ON position, for manual operation. Second, with the headlamp switch placed in the OFF position activating automatic lamp control (ALC).For ALC operation, the BCM receives a signal from the ambient light sensor indicating a low or high ambient, outside, light level. Under low light conditions the BCM grounds the headlamp relay control circuit energizing the headlamp control relay. The now closed relay supplies ground through the headlamp switch to the headlamps and the BCM on the headlamp low or high beam signal circuit, depending on the position of the headlamp dimmer switch. When the BCM grounds the headlamp relay control circuit it also grounds the park lamp relay control circuit illuminating the park lamps. The headlamp relay is grounded at G203.
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
The low beam headlamps operate at reduced intensity when in daytime running lamps (DRL) mode. The ground circuit to the switch side of the DRL relay has a resistor in-line to reduce the intensity of the low beam headlamps for DRL operation. The body control module (BCM) receives a signal from the ambient light sensor indicating a low or high ambient, outside, light level. Under daylight conditions the BCM grounds the DRL relay control circuit energizing the DRL control relay. The now closed relay supplies ground directly to the low beam headlamps and to the BCM on the headlamp low beam signal circuit. The low beam headlamps now illuminate with reduced intensity. The DRL relay is grounded at G203. Any time the headlamps are illuminated the DRL will not illuminate. Manual park lamps do not effect DRL operation.

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
The ambient light sensor is used to monitor outside lighting conditions. The ambient light sensor provides a voltage signal that will vary between 0.2 and 4.9 volts depending on outside lighting conditions. The body control module (BCM) provides a 5-volt reference signal to the ambient light sensor. The ambient light sensor is permanently grounded at ground G202. The body control module (BCM) monitors the ambient light sensor signal circuit to determine if outside lighting conditions are correct for either daytime running lights (DRL) or automatic lamp control (ALC) when the headlamp switch is in the AUTO position. In daylight conditions the BCM will command the low beam headlamps ON at reduced intensityy. Any function or condition that turns on the headlamps will cancel DRL operation.
There could be a DTC stored in the BCM pointing to a problem !

My low beam headlights will not come on! My daylight running lights work during the day and I have high beams but at night I have nothing but high beams ???

The coil is permanently grounded to G201 via CKT 1450 (BLK). The coil is energized and the contacts close providing battery positive voltage (B+) to the headlamp dimmer switch via CKT 1346 (LT BLU). When the headlamp dimmer switch is in the LOW position, battery positive voltage (B+) is supplied via CKT 12 (TAN) to the following components:

Locate the ambient light sensor


Automatic Headlamps- Vehicles with the automatic headlamps option are equipped with a unique headlamp switch that includes an A (Automatic) position and have a sun load sensor located on the top of the instrument panel to sense ambient light levels. When the A position of the headlamp switch is selected while the engine is running, the headlamps are turned ON and OFF automatically as ambient light levels dictate.

Replace dimmer switch


The headlamps ( high an low ) are controlled by the LCM lamp control module .

Under the left side of the IP, on the base of the steering column

Headlights Circuit Description (Buick)
Battery positive voltage (B+) is supplied at all times to the lamp control module (LCM) through the LH underhood fuse block LCM/HDLP circuit breaker via CKT 242 (RED). When the headlamp switch is placed in the ON position, the headlamp switch input to the LCM is grounded via CKT 103 (WHT). The LCM then supplies battery positive voltage (B+) via CKT 12 (TAN) to the following components:
• Left low beam headlamp
• Right low beam headlamp
When the headlamp dimmer switch is placed in the HIGH position, the LCM removes battery positive voltage (B+) from the low beam headlamps. The LCM supplies battery positive voltage (B+) via CKT 11 (LT GRN) to the following components:
• Left high beam headlamp
• Right high beam headlamp
The LCM provides battery positive voltage (B+) to the appropriate headlamps under the following conditions:
• The ignition switch is in the RUN position.
• The ambient light sensor indicates darkness.
The lamp control module (LCM) monitors the ambient light conditions through the ambient light sensor. The ambient light sensor is a variable resistor whose resistance changes as the surrounding ambient light level changes. Ambient remote control 5884 won't turn fireplace on and off


  • Make sure your valve is in the "on" position and not "pilot".
  • Install fresh batteries in both remote and receiver (remotes are finicky about good batteries.
  • Ensure the switch on your receiver is in the "remote" position.
  • Follow manual to re-sync handheld to receiver if necessary.
  • A burner not lighting could also be the fault of the appliance (bad thermopile). Check this too, and replace if needed.

On my 1996 ss impala what low side pressure should I see on the a/c with the system running


It all depends on the outside (ambient) air temperature. Your A/C low pressure switch is designed to turn the compressor off at 24 Psi. and turn it back on at 45 Psi. Most systems will normally run at between 25 and 40 Psi when the system is running on HIGH blower and "MAX" or "RECIRCULATE". A system that is fully charged may run at 25 Psi when the ambient temperature is 75 Deg. (F) and may run at 40 Psi when the ambient temperature is at 90 Deg. (F). (it can be even higher if ambient temperatures are higher than 90 Degrees.)

To properly diagnose a malfunctioning A/C system, the HIGH side pressure must also be checked. Restrictions in the system can make the low side pressure look normal while the high side pressure is high enough to blow hoses apart. (400+ Psi.)

My 1996 passat is shutting off when the ambient temperture is hot, when is cool outside it starts fine but then as it warms up it shuts off. I purchased a new ignition switch but that didn't help.


the ambient temp. is reading more hight to ECU , ECU cut off . check sensor cable for short sercuit . try disconnected and check . note if disconnect mybe A/C not working ,

P1494 - LEAK DETECTION PUMP SWITCH OR MECHANICAL FAULT

When Monitored: Immediately after a cold start, with battery/ambient temperature between 40 deg. F and 90 deg. F and coolant temperature within 10 deg. F of battery/ambient.

Set Condition: The state of the switch does not change when the solenoid is energized.

This code sets when the LDP Switch does not close when the vacuum is let into the LDP. An evap leak will not set this code. First check the vacuum to the LDP. IF it is ok, you will need a wiring diagram to check the battery voltage, and the control wire, and the switch state wire to the LDP. If the wiring to the LDP is good, then the switch in the LDP is bad, and you replace the LDP. This is the case almost 100% of the time.
