If your CD is not working, then use a computer that has a working CD and copy the files off this CD disc to a USB flash memory stick. Then insert this USB memory stick into your computer that has the faulty CD drive and install the software from this USB flash memory stick.

Transfering songs to mp3

If your operating system is XP, go to start, programs, accessories, windows explorer. Go to the folder you have the music in, right click on a file you want to put on the mp3 player and see what the file type is. If the file is MP3 or wav, attach your MP3 player with the cable it came with to a usb port on your computer. It will mount as a drive (example E: F:, etc...). All you have to do is drag the file you want on the MP3 player to the mounted drive. If you have VISTA, you go to the microsoft ball in the lower left of your screen, and click one time, select all programs, accessories, windows explorer.

Memory stick not identified.

The memory stick probably is not the right type. The Sansa only takes SD Micro chips. However, IIRC Micro only goes up to 2GB. So, if you have a 4GB chip is must be a SD HC (High Capacity). Unfortunately, these do not work in the Sansa.

Sansa 260

I'm wondering if its your computer. I would test another usb-connected device (i.e digital camera, USB memory stick etc.) to see if it takes that long to recognize. Also i would check what version of usb you have (ver 1.1 versus 2.0) The speed difference in both initial recognition and file transfer is significant.
