The three colors have split

Hi,

If the picture on the screen looks like or almost the same as the photos below, then this is an indication of faulty convergence circuitry.

Yes, this is fixable and the most common caused of this symptoms is a faulty convergence chips(IC). Most of the projection TV used STK-*** (X means number) series as convergence chips and they are mounted on the large aluminum heat sink. Replacing these chips resolve the issue. It is necessary also to check the resistance of the resistors and pico fuses because in some cases they gone bad also when short circuits happened to the chips. Please watch the video below to give you an idea how to replaced the convergence chips.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

Hi, My Samsung tv had the bad coloring issues described of as convergence/IC issues. Now it just has a red slanted line going across the top of the tv. In the self focus menu I get an error that says...

You can just replace the convergence board which for your model is part # BP95-00415C They are under $100 dollars and are just a plug in board. You should be able to purchase from

I have some distored blue color across the screen

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

HD 1080 Series (WD-55809) - Color convergence issue

I don't know of illustrated instructions but I can provide you with the service manual for your TV. It does have illustrations of disassembly and components as well as schematics. Your set very likely needs new convergence IC chips. This is a common problem with all projection TVs. The repair is not expensive ($60-75 in parts)  but does involve unsoldering and removing the old chips and soldering in new ones. Some times there are some fuses that need to be replaced as well. If you want the manual provide me with an email address.

Hitachi 50ux26b projection TV, the color lines separated...

It sounds like a convergence problem; either bad solder connections at one of the convergence Ic chips or a bad Ic. if this was helpful give me a vote----if one of the chips is now bad it will have to be replaced(usual thing is to replace all the convergence ic chips---most use two and a few 3.

Covergence and Bowed Picture Problem

can you adjust any color of convergence in user menu blue, or red up or down left or right. if you can make any up or down left or right adjustments on any color then the likelihood it wont be a convergence ic. it would be a output resistor. so see if you can get any movement. with it being bowed i was suspect an convergence ic.
