Satellite a65 problem with atheros wireless driver after XP Pro SP2 installed

We recently installed Windows XP Pro with SP2 on my A65 labtop and in the process of installation there was an error that warned: windows does not support realtek rtl 8139 ethernet but we continued with the installation.  Then a second error popped up: windows does not support atheros wireless driver or something to that effect.  So we hit cancel installation and now even after restarting the wireless card is no longer working and we can't get a LAN connection to work either.  Please help??  Any idea why XP Pro with SP2 does not seem compatible with my ethernet and wireless driver?

Hi!!! Thanks for the very quick response!!!

We tried updating both drivers using the Toshiba websites downloading both the sa70 for the Atheros and sa60 for the Ethernet. We still don't have any connectivity from either device.

Now here is the interesting part. After I updated these drivers and rebooted the computer I went to the device manager. Four Network adapters come up with an error message (the yellow ? point)

--Atheros AR500 Wireless Network adapter #2--packet schedule miniport
--Realtek RTL8139/810/810x family fast ethernet nic
--Realtek RTL8139/810/810x family fast ethernet nic--packet schedule miniport
    --WAN Miniport (IP)--packet scheduler miniport

Any idea why they would still be in error after the reinstalling them?

I'm starting to wonder if XP home only works on this computer (A65-1065) because we had no problems and were connected to the internet up until I tried to update to XP 3 hours ago. Is it possible the XP isn't compatable with my system?

Any more help is greatly appreciated!!!!

Hi,

Perhaps what is required is to install the drivers separately and use those from the manufacturer, Toshiba. Incidentally, there are 18 versions of a Satellite A65, which one is yours pls? (Versions start from S1062...S1762).

Pls start here and select Portables, Satellite, and A65 + Version, then click on "Show Results" button.

Alternately, you may want to jumpstart and try this for the RTL8139 and/or this for the Atheros WiFi. Both are for Windows XP.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

Appreciate likewise the postback and additional information.

Pls try deleting/uninstallibng all instances of the Atheros and the Realtek in your Device Manager including those hidden (Device Manager, View, Show Hidden Devices).

Additionally, it may be necessary (if available) to install first Toshiba chipset drivers prior to the Atheros and Realtek.

    Cheers.

Just use "Atheros 802.11a/b/g,b/g Mini-PCI/PCIe Driver v5.3.0.67 or later for Windows XP"and get the problem solved. You can either download the driver from Atheros site or search for that on google.I am using Windows XP Pro with SP3 on the same mechine and the wireless is working fine.In case of any problem you can contact me on dineshchandra@fastermail.com.

Lan and wireless driver for toshiba a135-s2246

Unfortunately, the Toshiba Satelite A135-S2246 was never designed to run XP, only Vista. Which is why you can't find any drivers for XP. The nearest you can get is to find a laptop running XP SP2 that is using the same LAN (ethernet controller) and WLAN (wireless ethernet controller), and see if they will work.

Here are the drivers I found for XP (please check which one's you are trying to install):

Atheros WiFi card driver:
http://www.wireless-driver.com/download/atheros/2007-7-23/Atheros-ar5bxb6-AR5424-mini-PCI-E-Wireless-Card-Driver-Download.htm

Intel WiFi card driver:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx
You will need to search for the card that you have.

LAN (ethernet controller):
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=6&PFid=6&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#1
You can pick third or fourth from top depending on your preference.

Please remember that Toshiba, Microsoft, Atheros, Realtek, Intel and especially myself accept no responsibilty for what may, or may not happen when installing drivers not specifically designed for your system. All that said, I hope it works for you.

Hard drive wipe issue

It appears you have some kind of web access so I woulld start at the Toshiba site to look for drivers and download to an optical disk for installation into your laptop.
Most public libraries have terminals and on request, on your cost, they will burn a CD for you or allow you to burn one on your own blank.
Those drivers might also be already on whatever Toshiba disks supplied with the system.
