Depending on your TV input/output, you can run your video components to TV via HDMI then run your audio out via digital optical, RCA, or other means to receiver. If you have more than one HDMI input on TV or, if you can use component for video to TV, you can then run audio to receiver. Video pass through to the receiver is not the best way to hook up your system. Let me know if this makes sense to you.

Why do my hdmi ports keep getting fried?

Reminiscent of a period when every time there was a storm I needed a new telephone answering machine - no one knew why and it was nobody's fault. In time it just stopped happening, presumably for no particular reason. I suspect either the telecoms or electric company quietly fixed the fault without admitting liability. When you say your HDMI ports were fried, you don't indicate if that is a literal description - they showed clear physical damage from high voltage, sparking, arcing, heat discolouration..? I only have two suggestions - to ensure there is a good ground connection to the household even if you have to have an independent ground installed and to protect every device that contains a computer of any type with surge protection including telecoms, plus area protection...

Fault to the main power supply regulator section. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

I have vizio sv470m and all of the 4 hdmi plugs stopped working one at a time.

Power doesn't have to be knocked out for a cable box to destroy the HDMI ports on a TV. Thunder miles away will put voltage spikes on the cable system which in turn trashes the main board in the TV. You can get parts for your TV here: TV Parts Universal TV Stands DLP Chips ShopJimmy

Hi there!
One of reasons your tv not working, the thunder storm /lighting possibility has burnt your Tv micro processor. get a technician to check the power supply section too because during the thunder storm your TV circuitry received excessive voltage .
If is the main processor is burnt you have to change it for the TV to work .

In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

Absolutely no power on my Toshiba flatscreen lcd led tv. In a lighting storm we unplugged all of the appliances. This tv still was damaged because it was connected to the cable box via a hdmi cable. Not a...

If the HDMI cable was the only connection, then the high voltage pulse would have had to go through one or more of the video wires in the cable, through the video board, and back out the HDMI cable shielding. What troubles me is you should see the unit come up to standby and refuse to power on. That suggests there was something else connected besides the HDMI cable or the base made a decent ground. At least the panel is worth $150 or so (it is highly unlikely it was damaged).
