I have the same problem but as I have just purchased a new laptop I thought it may have something to do with the vista programme. I cannot upload any files from the device onto the computer.

Try connecting it direct without the cradle... if you still get the same thing then the usb cable needs replacing

It says wait while trying to view recordings through voice manager, but it's never done waiting. Also the f drive states the device is not ready

Your best bet is to play the recordings through the headphone connector to a pc audio line-in connector and capture the audio using something like Audacity. Then output them using audacity to mp3 to play on your mp3 player.

These units are notorious for their failing USB feature.

I can't delete anything on my unit

make sure that the device is not locked or write protected in any case and also that the files are not stored as read only....If deleting the files by cable computer connection make sure that the cable in properly attached to the device as well as the p.c as accessing the device can malfunction and cause such errors if not plugged in properly

When uploading the audio files from any folder

Why don’t you try another usb cable? Or you could try transferring via Bluetooth as well. From the message, 'unexpected error has occurred in communication' you can see that the device providing the communication between phone and PC, i.e. cable is not functioning well. That is why even when you switch from port to port the problem persists.

Digital wave player wont pick up recorder when i plug it in

Install a VN recorder on VISTA
*************************
1. Make sure the device has been uninstalled in device manager
2. Make sure the old version of digital wave player is uninstalled.
{Delete Temp files in Internet Explorer --Tools--Internet Options --Delete Files-- Delete offline content--OK}
3. Install digital wave player (The newest Version).
http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/DigitalWavePlayer.zip
4. Install the 2.1.4 vista update
http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/software_results.asp?id=1291&os=w
5. Restart the computer.
6. Plug in the VN recorder to the USB port and turn the recorder on.
"Found new hardware" will appear,
7. install automatically.
This may fail, if you see VNUSB device, skip the final steps and proceed to Digital Wave Player to Download files from the Digital Voice Recorder.
If you will see "Other devices" listed in Device manager with "digital voice recorder" underneath it.
8. Right click on the "digital voice recorder"
9. Select update driver from the pop up menu.
10. Choose the browse computer Option
11. In the next window browse to the location that you downloaded the Digital Wave Player application to
12. Click Next
A security warning window will open,
13. Choose "install anyway" and the device will install.
When successfully installed you will see the "other devices" disappear and a VNUSB device with a "VN series device"
underneath it appear at the bottom of the device manager list. There will be a blue question mark next to the device. At this point you can close the device manager and the properties window and open Digital Wave Player. You will see the recorder listed underneath the recorder folder and be able to download and use the program normally now.

Device not recognised in Vista, although will work for a while, have to keep reinstalling the device driver

Make sure you have the latest update of the DSS Player Pro software. Check under Help > About Dictation Module. You should be using version 4.10.3. If not, download the latest version with the latest Vista drivers.

Cradle/USB malfunction?

It is not obvious that the cable should be used one way and if someone plugged the cable in wrong even once(this really doesn't take much pressure), it can damage the Female end of the connection. Make sure the arrows align on the recorder and cable and if it doesn't work it is most likely physical damage.
