Question about Apple MacBook PC Notebook

Downloading a windows media player to a MacBook

I received great advice from hutchwilco on a previous problem, thanks.  My current problem is how to download a windows media player (version 9 has been recommended for my OS X operating system).  I can download the program but when I try to use it (ie. double click on it from my applications menu), a long document comes up titled Stuffit with nothing but nonsense symbols filling the page.  Sure would appreciate some help.  Thanks.

Stuffit is like Winzip for Mac.
Where are you downloading the media player from?
Do you have a copy of Stuffit it installed on your Mac so that you can decompress media player if that's the format you are downloading it in?

Reset my apple password

It depends on the OS X version, but Apple's instructions for Snow Leopard, and previous, versions, are described or linked at OS Changing or resetting an account password Snow Leopard and earlier

However, the easiest route would be to contact the eBay seller for the password that they set.

Hi Chloe. Sorry to tell you that the latest version of flash player will not work on your G4. You may be able to find a version of Flash on their support pages that is newer than the one you currently have but this is still not likely to solve your problem. The latest version of Flash requires a newer Intel chip MacBook rather than the old G4 chip iBook. You might get lucky (as I have done) and be able to buy a working MacBook on eBay. This will be able to run 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and you should be able to download the latest Flash. The MacBooks replaced the iBooks when Apple switched to using Intel chips - like Windows PCs. Best wishes.

I just purchased Satellite Direct to watch tv on my laptop. It won't connect because it says I don't have a plug-in of the MIME type (application/x-mplayer2). What do I need to do and how?

The best information I found is at this particular on this exact issue: you need a media player that plugs in to your browser and can play windows media player for you. Fip4Mac seems to be the most recommended solution. This link will tell you all about it as well as link to download locations. Sounds like you'll also need Perian. Just download and install both of those and you should be good.

It says i need x-player2 to stream my church on line. i have a mac book

Thank you for contacting FixYa Support.

Three of the better xplayer2 applications for Mac would be:

VLC Media Player

Flip4Mac

Perian v1.2.1

All of these media players work with the Mac OS X platform well, so you should be streaming in no time.

I hope this helps.

Need flash player for mac

lil lebo 53,

Here is the link to download the Adobe Flash Player for your Mac. You'll need Mac OS X 10.4 or later. Also recommended is a program call "Perian" this will greatly improve your Mac's media playing abilities.

Flash Player

Perian

Hope this helps, don't forget to vote and leave feedback.

Thank you :)

MacBook Software Updater - continually prompts to install an update

You're probably not actually flashing the firmware, but downloading the utility to do so. Follow these steps:
1. Quit all other open applications. Open the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware update which is in your Utilities directory

2. Click Shut Down in the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update window and wait for your computer to shut down.

3. Press and hold the power button on your MacBook Pro until the power indicator light flashes repeatedly, then release the power button to begin the update.

A status bar indicates the progress of the update.

Important: Do not interrupt the update.

Your computer restarts automatically when the update is completed and opens the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update.

4. Click OK, if the firmware is now up-to-date.
