G1 phone camera doesnt take pictures

As the others said, there are the two settings. I had a similar problem, then realized how it worked. You need to not press very hard while it focuses first. Then you can press all the way down, if you hold it all the way down, it doesn't recognize that you've already passed the first "Focus" pressure point and gone into the second "Capture" pressure point.

Camera wont take snap

Because the camera has Mechanical Focus the camera button has 2 Pressures, Holding The first 1/2 of the button press will enable to Mechanical Focus to work, And then once the green dot is shown telling you its in focus, pressing the button all the way down will then take your picture !

Dead LifeDrive

I would guess you bought a dud micro drive or its been cleaned off. You could try a hard reset and see if it fixes itself. Perhaps the fellow cleaned off his information but hopefully he left the restore partition alone. You can rebuild that if you extract the files from the 2.0 upgrade and so on. There are a few tutorials on how and what to do on some of the hardcore LD sites.

Hopefully you didn't harm the board itself with a static discharge. I've seen a few guys do the swap and end up with a dead LD but usually they don't see anything at all.

Lost files - due to soft reset?

just check your PalmOne folder, see if anything there, i.e., : C:\Program Files\palmOne\\Internal Drive Backup *********************** well, a hard reset should be able to restore to LD new-out-of-the-box state, if you don't need to save any corrupted files in LD drive... But if they are something really important, what you can do is to copy whatever files out to a PC (i.e., via drive mode on a PC), and see if you can recover it with data recovery apps, or better yet, do it straight on the LD drive - although the chance of success is slim. What you described on previous post, sounds like the FAT table has messed up, and seems very similar to a PC HDD failure.

Wikipedia with lifedrive?

tr3 files are desktop PC files, they must be converted to .pdb files by the TomeRaider desktop program. Changing the file extention does not convert the data to Palm format, it is still PC data.
