Question about Apple iPod classic MP3 Player

IPod 80g Classic

I have had this over a year (so longer covered by warranty ... of course) and I went to play it and everything works ... except it just says: Now Playing and the song sits at 0:00. I have tried rebooting, system retore and diagnostic check with came up with nothing wrong. It's not giving me any warning signs (ie Sad face or web address). I can hear the hard drive quietly whirling (sp?) but nothing. I am even at a completely different computer than I normally use and still nothing. Help. My last resort is the 'slap method' that I saw on someone else's website. :)

I have done the system retore through ITunes which wiped everything out. I am not familiar with the formatting. How do I do that?

Tried it ... no luck. Changing the HDD ... does that mean a new hard-drive? I did notice that though everything else on the IPod works the only thing that isn't working (besides the music stuck on 0:00 ... although I can fast forward but it just doesn't play) that the music for the game: Music Quiz does not play either. I guess these 2 things would be linked.

The logic board is broken. If it was the HDD or just an issue with your songs it would have had to work again after the restore. You can try to replace the logic board yourself, the part is available on any auction website. There is an iPod classic Repair service that can fix it for you. There is an iPod classic repair guide that can show you how to do the repair yourself.

Slapping can give out more damage when it is not executed properly, it will be best if you try and try to load the iPod's restoration tool and or format it using your iTunes.

try this out, if this method did not work, you may want to resort to changing the HDD of the Classic.

possible, i have not experienced that issue on an old classic even if i try to force the error that you have it just does not happen. last resort then is to contact an Apple repair center for consultation, or a new hard drive will do the trick too, good luck

The score pad and buttons ant working on my ipod

Reset the thing.  Hold down the center button and menu button at the same time.  After the thing resets itself, hook it back to your computer and re-sync.  If this doesn't work, then your ipod is fu.k.d up and you gotta take it back to the store for exchange if your within your 30 day window or take it back to the Apple store if your within your 1 year window.

Replace an iPod

As long as a refurbished iPod is coming from an authorized apple retailer, it is an excellent idea to go that rout. The 80GB iPod is just as stable as a Nano and the capacity I have found is great. They even make a 160GB iPod now as well :)

80G Ipod Classic skips songs

Try converting the songs into a different format because the format that the song is in might not completely be played on the ipod. Right click on the song and click on convert to mp3. Then try transferring the mp3 format song onto the ipod and it should play right then.
