I have had this over a year (so longer covered by warranty ... of course) and I went to play it and everything works ... except it just says: Now Playing and the song sits at 0:00. I have tried rebooting, system retore and diagnostic check with came up with nothing wrong. It's not giving me any warning signs (ie Sad face or web address). I can hear the hard drive quietly whirling (sp?) but nothing. I am even at a completely different computer than I normally use and still nothing. Help. My last resort is the 'slap method' that I saw on someone else's website. :)

Re: IPod 80g Classic
The logic board is broken. If it was the HDD or just an issue with your songs it would have had to work again after the restore. You can try to replace the logic board yourself, the part is available on any auction website. There is an iPod classic Repair service that can fix it for you. There is an iPod classic repair guide that can show you how to do the repair yourself.

Reset the thing. Hold down the center button and menu button at the same time. After the thing resets itself, hook it back to your computer and re-sync. If this doesn't work, then your ipod is fu.k.d up and you gotta take it back to the store for exchange if your within your 30 day window or take it back to the Apple store if your within your 1 year window.
My 80GB Ipod classic recently froze. I took it to Apple store and the guy press the Menu and Center Button. Hold them until the APPLE logo appears twice. Then release the button.
Voila, my Ipod work again, no missing data
i dont know about the freezing but when u sync your ipod all the music is erased from the ipod and then your complete itunes library is loaded back on the ipod to keep this from happening u need to click on the ipod on the side of the itunes go into the ipod setting and select load music manually now to put music on you have to click and drag the song or album over into the ipod on the side of itunes
As long as a refurbished iPod is coming from an authorized apple retailer, it is an excellent idea to go that rout. The 80GB iPod is just as stable as a Nano and the capacity I have found is great. They even make a 160GB iPod now as well :)
Will your ipod show up in My Computer? If it does, you might try right clicking on the icon, select properties. Go to the Tools tab and perform a disk check. You may try www.ifixipodsfast.com He may be able to help you if it is a hardware problem/
Try converting the songs into a different format because the format that the song is in might not completely be played on the ipod. Right click on the song and click on convert to mp3. Then try transferring the mp3 format song onto the ipod and it should play right then.
