Question about ASUS Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I'm trying to get my Asus WL-520GC wireless router to work, but when I connect the Cable modem via the WAN to the router then the Router to the PC via the LAN, I can't get internet, so obviously something is going wrong. I've run the EZisetup but still no luck?

Try rebooting the computer, if it does not pick up an IP address. Try taking the router out of the mix. If the computer gets an IP address from the modem then you need to reset your router. If your PC does not connect straight through the modem. Call your provider to make sure they are communicating with the modem. If they are communicating then you need a new NIC.

SOURCE: Wireless router setup

is the problem that "nothing coming from the modem to the router"
if the router has more than one Lan port try the cable from the modem to the router, in the first lan port or the last port.

if its a wireless problem, ensure wireless is enabled on the laptop and the router,if you set up a security key ensure that it is put into the laptop wireless setting

sometimes you need to turn on the modem first then turn the router on after a little while to sort the ip address out before trying to connect the laptop, in the first instance.

hope this is of some help but more info would be good

good luck

I need to connect a D-Link router to my cable modem so that I can use my laptop anywhere in my home

Cable-modem <-- Ethernet cable --> WAN (or "Internet") port on the router

LAN port on router <-- Ethernet cable --> network-port on your laptop

Then, access the "built-in" web-server on the router,
and run the "Wireless Networking Setup" wizard:
* to set an SSID ("network-name")
* an encryption-level (Hint: choose 'wpa')
* a password for your wireless network

Then, disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer,
and then "wireless available wireless networks".
Select your newly-created network, and connect to it.

Setup belkin wireless network

Hi,
1.Connect a Cat5 cable into the Ethernet port on the back of your cable or DSL modem. Plug the other end of the cable into the "Connect to Modem Internet/WAN" port on the back of the Belkin Router.
2.Connect a Cat5 cable into the "Ethernet" port on the back of any desktop or stationary computers and then plug the other end of the cable into one of the LAN ports on the back of the Belkin Router. Start with port one and work your way up with subsequent computer connections.
3.Turn the Belkin Router on by plugging the router into a power outlet. Allow 30 seconds for the router to fully boot up. All computers tethered to the modem via a Cat5 cable have access to the Internet.
4.Open the Wi-Fi Wizard on your laptop and turn on the Wi-Fi antenna. Once turned on, the Wizard finds all network connections in your area. Connect to your network to establish an Internet connection. Complete this step for each computer not tethered to the Belkin Router with a Cat5 cable.

Cable and wireless question

Not possible, since the "input" to the 2WIRE modem is a 4-wire telephone-line, not an 8-wire Ethernet cable.

Instead, spend about $40 to buy a D-Link Wireless G modem, and connect its WAN port to the cable-modem, and connect up to 4 Ethernet cables to "wired" computers, and configure the "wireless" component of the D-Link router.

It lost its LAC and right now my computer is running on the wireless even though it's not wireless.

Your router's cable is connected in the wrong connection.

1. Remove the cable from the wireless connector
2. Insert it into one of the ports of the router that has LAN not WAN.
3. You will be able to connect your wireless and wired computers to the router.

This could have blue for WAN or Yellow for WAN and then the rest can have yellow for the 4 PCs to connect.

Internet no longer working, but internal network is fine.

i agree with all the above.. it's definately clear as mud how the network is designed and or funtioning. The machines connected to the wireless d-link router.. are they via cat5 inthe wired ports or wireless ? is the server the machine thats connecting to the switch and wiress router and modem? i'd say reset all switches modems routers and machines.. shut them all down.. then fire the cable modem, then the wireless router then the desktop switch then the server, the workstations and the one lonely wireless.. run "ipconfig /all" on all machines and if they aren't all sharing common ips and access, provide the results here for further investigation.

I have got an asus wireless router wl 500w . I can only get local acces, and sometimes connection to the internet for aout 10 seks, and then theres no interne again

connect to it using a rj45 cable and type 192.168.0.1 into your browser.  if that doesn't bring up the router config, you'll need to find out the ip by clicking start>run> type cmd enter.  then type ipconfig and see what the router assigned  your ethernet card.  type that in, except for the last triplet of digits, type 1.  once you're there, login using admin and a blank password or admin and admin for password (differs from router to router) and see if your wan connection is set to automatic or manual.  if you're using dsl, you'll need to manually configure your connection.  cable does not require configuring and can be set to automatic.

it will as long as the modem/router is connected to a phone line, instead of the pc, the only cable connected to the pc should be a ethernet cable; or you have the pc networking set that it connects via another pc instead of through a gateway, re run the wireless network wizard.

Trying to hook up belkin wireless router to cable modem and don't know how the hook-up should be

Hello,

If you have your pc connected directly to your broadband modem through the ETH/LAN port on your pc then disconnect it from that port on your PC.

Then connect the same cable to your Belkin Routers Internet/WAN port. Then take the extra cable that came with the Belkin router and connect it to 1 of the 4 lan ports on the Belkin router. Then connect the other end to your PC in the LAN port.

After that, restart your PC and everything should be fine.

Thanks
