Take apart computer
Look at the cable connecting the existing dvd/cdwriter in your computer, and follow the ribbon until you see a similar looking cable
Consult the PC manual to find out the # of pins you need to change and their position
Connect the new internal drive to the second ribbon
Reassemble your computer

Best to consult your product manuals for the PC, your BIOS, and the internal CD/dvd writer, and/or a techy-geeky friend.

Cd rom wont write to disc, can this be fixed?

Its not a terminal problem but an issue with your CDWRITER or the application you use in performing CD Writing

CHECKLIST
1. Make sure you are using a Blank Empty CD

SOLUTIONS
1. Try formating the Blank disks from Windows Explorer and not from the utility software
2. Check your CDWRITER settings (usually problems do not arise from here) you could set the settings default.

Are there any error messages when trying to write data on the CD?

I do not get images when burning cd

Try to burn same cd that you use to another cdwriter of another pc. Then view it on there if it can open it. If it can open/view it. Maybe your writer is defective/already failing.

Nero problem

First of all, Thanks for coming back. " Calibration Area Full " is supposed to indicate the the media ( blank ) that you are using is no longer capable of being tested to verify that the CDwriter laser can be adjusted for power to write to that particular media. I did some research on this just a week or two ago as I have a CDburner that is giving the same indications on all the media I use at present. Now the explanation makes one believe that the media ( blanks ) is at fault, but that is not the case at all, as I can take those same blanks and put them into a different CD/DVDwriter and write all day long. So the indication of the software on the first computer, this laptop for example, is entirely misleading, even tho the same indication is used by every piece of software. i.e. all CD/DVDwriting softwares are saying the same thing. Cannot write to calibration area. What does that mean? In my case it means that my DVD/CDwriter in this laptop is defective and never was very good to begin with. I want a firmware update for it, but Sony will not provide one, so I am stuck for the time being.

Now let's get back to you, have you tried the Imgburn software that I had you get the other day? and what brand and model of DVD/CDwriter did you get. Have you checked for firmware updates for it ( very important in some cases with some media )?

Get back to me asap or when you determine what I have asked? Take care. I am patient. Be aware tho, don't believe everything the software says... Tend to trust your own instincts.

HP Pavilion a220n cd-rw won't burn

Maybe you will see the error status in the peripheric manager. First, go to the control panel, look for the system icon. Double-click on it. Then, select the material tab. Click on the peripheric manager (sorry, I use the French version, so it may not be called that way, but it is the first button on that tab). You will then see all the different type of material connected. Click on the + in front of the CD-ROM, DVD player. If there is a yellow mark !, that means that the installation is not correct. You can simply erase that configuration (right-click and select erase). You restart your computer and Windows XP will rebuild that info.

Please, give me some news.

I have installed a CD-Writer Plus and A Memomrex DVD Burner, now my cd- writer rom will not work but I can play music in my dvd drive

I noticed you mentioned in a separate note that your DVD burner is shutting down your system whenever you try to copy files, which makes me wonder if you know how to go about installing DVD or CD drives into a system. I'm also wondering why you installed both a CDwriter and a DVDwriter into a single system. Normally only a technican or a highly qualified power user would have their computer using two or more optical drives. I think the simpliest answer for the time being would be for you to completely remove the CDwriter from the system and then see if the DVDwriter can do the job it is supposed to do. The reason I say this is I doubt you have configured the jumpers located on the back of the optical drives so that they can both operate properly on your system. When you bought the drives, a small sheet of paper should have been included with the drives that would let you know how to configure those jumpers else confusion would be created on your computer and this confusion COULD lead to mis-idendification of the drives by the computer's bios and that could and probably would cause much of what you have described regarding the computer shutdown and inability for one drive to function.

Nero 7 essential problem

you need to run the update feature, Nero when installed fresh might not have the profile of all the latest CDwriters, also you need to check the "Recorders" options in the menu, it may just be that you need to change the setting to use the recorder that you have, if no recorders are listed please see 1st paragraph

Dvd rom problem

as soon as a dvd writer drive only starts to play cd's, cdrw's or only reports that you have a CDRW drive when inserting a blank DVD, the writers laser is worn out or faulty and no longer recognises dvd's, and so needs replacing i'm afraid, but as you may know not all dvd drives are hot swapable and need to be replaced by a repairer.

If you have other Optical Drive in your computer like a CDwriter then installed it where that LG 52x CDROM drive. Observe if the same problem occur after 2 or 3 hours. Try connecting the CDROM drive to the IDE ports (Secondary IDE port) like setting its jumper to Master. Ensure that the connection to its power supply is firm. Change the setting of your POWER OPTIONS which is under the CONTROL PANEL and change the setting for TURN-OFF HARD DISK to NEVER.
