I have researched this problem and it is so common we that own this piece of junk ought to form a class action suit and sue. It is caused by a bad part or bad connections to a part called a backlight inverter. It seems the LCD needs a higher voltage than supplied by the 12vdc power pack so this part re-chops the DC voltage to generate the LCD requirement.
The date of manufacture is on the back of these TVs and all the problems seem to be from those made in 2006 to 2008

sanyo is a junk tv, and I will NEVER purchase another....less than 5 years old black clouds on the screen, repairs are cost more than the cost of a new tv.....
Probably overheated. Inadequate air circulation. Nothing you can do now. If it's less than 1 year old Sanyo might replace it w/ a refurb. I'd contact them. http://us.sanyo.com/
Check the power supply for 12 volts dc, it must provide at minimum 3 amps of power to trigger the on circuit. If not, replace the adapter... if you need one, please contact me.
I have a Sanyo CLT1554 (2 1/2 years old). Has perfect sound but no picture. The picture will come after several times turning it off/on and pressing the Reset button. It is very anoing to do this evey time. PLEASE HELP
