It may not have been charged right. Make sure the filter is clean. I would call the ac company back and ask for someone more knowledgable to come out.Tell them it still is not cooling right.

Use the spell check and please restate your issue. Have you checked your air filter? Has the unit been serviced recently?

My a/c is blowing warm air. its a new house; moved in just a month ago. my grandmother constantly changes the settings back to 80...could this have busted my a/c?

Dear Sir:
1) Could be a reason just moving the thermostat.

2) You need to check the unit for condenser + evaporator very well from a Tech. Since the freon is not good signal for a good operation , the reason is may be some Leakes in the pipes.

sincerely. God bless you

MY AC WORKS FOR FOUR HOURS PER DAY AND BARELY COOLS DOWN THE HOUSE, NOT MUCH AIR COMING UP TO THE UPSTAIRS OF THE HOUSE. AFTER 4 HOURS, THE OUTSIDE UNIT SHUTS UP AND NOT MORE COOL AIR COMES IN. BEFORE THIS...

I am not understanding exactly what is happening with your unit. You say it only runs for 4 hours a day and then say that after 4 hours the outside unit shut off. But you don't describe the condition of the outside unit! Is there ice on your outside unit after it runs for four hours or is it so hot that the housing would fry an egg? Since it works for four hours and then stops working, I would guess that ice forms on the condenser grill which tells the thermostat that your air is much colder than it actually is. Then it takes time for the ice to melt off again. Am I close? If so this condition is usually caused by your unit being low on freon making everything work harder. But it could also mean that you have a leak in the system somewhere. But it shouldn't be much of a leak or it wouldn't run for the 4 hours.
I would recommend you charge it to the correct level and then check for leaks.

Last couple of years if our thermostat is set below 74 the ac will freeze up. The last 2 years we had it checked out and were told that 1)coils might be going out and 2) needs more freon. Once freon was...

Hello
If your going to have all the freon taken out, this current tech needs to find the leak.

Clearly from what you have said the unit has a freon leak.Freon is put in by ounces or pounds depending on the size of the unit, then you need to get the correct operating pressures.Coils do not go bad they either get full of dirt or get a hole in them.

An 8 yr old unit is a tough call, surley a new one will probably save some electric and come with a warranty.I would get some quotes on a new one, then see how much i could spend.

If both fans runs (inside and outside), check if the compresor runs , if does probably the unit is low in freon and needs to be recharged after the freon leak has been fixed (remember this is a seal system and it shouldn't leak), but if the compressor doesn't work , it could be the capacitor , the pressure switch (if it's low on freon ) or the compreessor itself. But befor do anything ,if you have a digital thermostat replce the batteries.

The lines that are frozen are not ones you can run bleach through. The best way to troubleshoot this one is to first turn off the unit and put it fan only mode to thaw and de-ice the coils. Then check the air filter to be sure that it's clean and that there's nothing blocking the air flow. If the filter is clean then you should check the coils just beyond the filter. Check to be sure that the coils are clean and free of dust and debris. If the coils are clean then you may be low on freon. At this point it does require a certified A/C technician to leak test and charge the system. These are the problems that would cause your unit to freeze up. Hope this helps, good luck!

Cooling down the townhouse slowly???

It could be that the A/C has a slow leak from sitting without use (usually over the winter months) and you've lost some freon and the unit requires a recharge.

Another thing to check, but shouldn't really be causing this problem, unless really blocked is to make sure is to put in a new air filter. You need to change them every 2-3 months if using the better quality pleated ones during the heating and A/C seasons.

I'm betting on the A/C needing a charge of freon to get things cooling better. Unfortunatley, this will require a certified A/C tech, since you have to be trained and licensed to perform this type of service. (unless you have the recharging gauges and some freon available to you and know how to get the right amount into the unit.

Hope this helps, best regards!

Hi have central air . Unit working ok but noticed not blowing cold air . The fan outside is working , Unit comes on . Could it be feron . unit it about 7 years old . Purchase house about 4 years ago

You need to have a pressure gauge the reads for R-22. (Freon) It sounds like the system might have a leak. Look for a wet place any place on the units pipe system. It has a little oil in with the freon that is forced out of any leak. If you see a wet place this is oil. It is also the location of your leak.
