Sounds to me like it's a software update failure. Try reloading the Software Update.

SOURCE: error screen trouble shooting

If you have the USB cable and a dvd/cd that contains the software/maps, then it needs to be loaded. Install the software on your computer. With the unit off, plug it into USB, then turn on unit. run program installed from dvd/cd. you can also try resetting the unit by holding down the Menu and Nav key, hopefully a small box appears and you can use the stiff stick to change the numbers. if this does appear, change the numbers to read 32 then press the stiff stick in (pressing enter). _Daniel

My 9412T-LM not connect to SmartGPSco for updates

Your Magellan RoadMate will update your maps and software directly on the device.

  • First perform initial setup on your RoadMate GPS unit:
    • Connect to Wi-Fi.
    • Log in or create a new account. If you already have an account on www.magellangps.com. Please use the same email address and password. Your device will register itself and initial setup is complete.
  • Download any available maps and software updates for your RoadMate via WiFi:
    • Tap from the Map screen.
    • Tap Updates when you see a notification (e.g. 2 New Updates).
    • Tap Update on Map Update or Software Update.
    • Wait for the new map or software to download.

L do I know if I have life time updates on my gamin nuvi 100

Usually if you have lifetime traffic and map updates, the model comes with LMT which means Lifetime Map and Traffic updates. Or LM means Lifetime Map updates.

I need to get software for 5045 for Germany, where do I order and how do I install it?

magellan web site is a good place to look. you`ll probably have to purchase and download to your pc then hook your magellen to you pc. they have data cables for that that usually come with it. or get one on ebay. Magellen usually has an app you download to your pc and plug in your roadmate and it updates it and for an additional fee they sell you updated operating system of you gps.

No map data availble

Your Garmin GPS has an internal memory or an SD-card that contains an "operating system" and "map data".The operating system is like windows or Mac OSX. It contains the menu and everything the GPS displays. The "map data" is a digital roadmap the GPS uses to calculate your route. If the map data was on a SD-card that was inserted in your GPS, it could me that you lost the SD-card. That could be the reason your GPS can't find the map data. Sometimes it happens that when people connect their GPS to a computer to update the "operating system" of the GPS something goes wrong. For example, when you disconnect your GPS from the computer while the update software is still writing data to your device, the connection gets lost and you're left with corrupt files on the GPS. It could also be a defect in the internal memory of the GPS. I suggest you try to update the operating system with a program called "Garmin Express" (just google and easy find it). You need to connect the GPS to your computer with a USB cable. Then you can perform an update. I hope it helps to solve your problem. What you could also try is to soft reset your GPS. To do that, you need to remove the silver or blue frame around the screen of the GPS (it pops off). Behind this border there is a reset button.
If the map data is completely gone, and you don't have a backup there is only one solution: Buy the latest map for your GPS online and download it to your GPS. It's expensive. In that case it's better to buy a new device in a shop. Most new devices contain Lifetime online map updates (model name nuvi -then the number - LM or LMT) (LM= Lifetime Mapupdates T= Traffic information) Then you can update your map data every three months if you want.

Roadmate 5045 slow after update

Magellan support was actually pretty good helping me with the exact same issue. The problem (at least in my case) was that the map files were fragmented. I tried using the Windows defragmenter, but that made fragmentation even worse! The Magellan support engineer recommended I download UltraDefrag instead:
http://ultradefrag.sourceforge.net/en/index.html

Here's what I had to do to completely resolve my issue:
1. Download and install UltraDefrag
2. Connect my GPS to my PC
3. Move the MAP directory from my GPS drive (J:) to my hard disk
4. In UltraDefrag, make sure Action > Skip removable media is not selected
5. Run the optimizer (Ctrl-F7 or Action > Full optimization) after selecting the GPS drive (J: on my computer)
6. Copy the MAP files back to the J: drive AFTER optimization has completed

I double-checked the fragmentation after the files were copied and got 0%. After disconnecting the GPS from the PC, the unit rebooted and doing an address search no longer takes 15 seconds. POI searchs are also much faster than before.

How to set up Magellan Roadmate 5045-LM to pedetrian mode

You have to go to settings to do this. Another easy way is punch in any address and before you actually except it, look up in left corner and will give you option of shortest distance, fastest distance and pedestrian mode. Also if still having problems. Here is a link to copy and paste in your browser and will help you. http://www.magellangps.com/ Thanks Mike

Magellan Roademate 5045 frozen on map screen. Is there any way of restarting it? There is no small hole for a reset button and I tried holding the power slider for ten seconds. No luck

I had exact same 'Magellan 5045 frozen' problem. Here is how I fixed it. Go to www.magellangps.com/contentmanager. Download and install Magellan Content Manager. Plug in your GPS. If content manager does not activate automatically, start it manually, like any other windows program or by right clicking on its icon. You will be asked to register your device and its serial number, etc.
After registering, if Content Manager fails to take you directly to the download location for your device, along the top of the Magellan web pages you will see a set of tabs, one of those is 'Support'. This is a pull-down menu. Select Manuals and Software update. This then takes you to their 'Support' web page. On the support web page, click on the 'Manuals and Software Downloads' button. This will take you to a page where you will be asked to select from four Download Categories. For the roadmate 5045 and similar gps intended to be used in an auto, select 'Magellan Vehicle Navigation'. This will take you to another page where you will have to select from three product series. For the 5045 series, select 'Roadmate Series'. This is another pulldown where you will have to select your product number, e.g., Roadmate 5045. This will finally take you to a page where you can select software and map updates. You will have to connect your Roadmate gps to your computer via USB and you will have to register. It is confusing because you will get incorrect and irrelevant statements like your device failed to register. It is somewhat quirky but if you follow the instructions and you have a wideband cable or FIOS internet connection, the upgrade to the software and the maps takes about 30 minutes. Do unplug your RoadMate from the USB unless asked to do so by the Content Manager program. After the software and maps update, the Roadmate 5045 worked like better than new for me.
