Re: What is ICC profile?

ICC profile can be used in any ICC aware application or platform, and describes usable information to convert into a color space which defined by ICC (International Color Consortium). DiMAGE A1 has a function to embed ICC file to the captured image. Please make use of the function "Embedded Adobe RGB" to use correct color information on application software which corresponds to color management system.

Dark pictures

perhaps the lab is at fault? if iPhoto displays the pics with the correct dark/light profile then it is likely to be right. You can alter the profile in the edit window of iPhoto but it would seem the lab messed up.

setting the color profile of my printer.

color profiles are methods to determine the disparate ways many items use to display color, by setting the correct color profiles in you pc's hardware items you can view images on the camera, screen or in print and have them look the same. it is possible that your display drivers do not have an appropriate profile for the fuji finepix, icc icm profile files are usually available from the makers, but you have to know which one,ma nd how to install it.

What are the effects of Adobe RGB?

Adobe RGB enables more vivid color reproduction, for Adobe RGB is capable of more color space than sRGB. It offers more flexibility than sRGB on image processing and image retouching. Please note, however, a normal PC monitor cannot realize the color reproduction effect, for the available color range of the monitor is restricted by its specification. Further, an image with Adobe RGB ICC profile may be reproduced in poor color depth unless color management is provided in advance. Meanwhile, there may be cases that the Adobe RGB effect is realized in printing out, as some colors can be reproduced by a printer.

Colour mode problem

You have to go into Nikon Transfer, click on Transfer Options (wrench & screwdriver), click on Transfer tab, check Embed ICC. It says it will only work when camera mode is set to II (Adobe RGB).

How do I calibrate my monitor? I have a new epson 3100z and a Epson photo Printer890... PIM is a joke..... I use adobe for image editing and image expert to print... My photos look great on the monitor but...

PIM uses the exif-info in your original jpg. I'm not sure, but I think if you edit the picture this exif becomes useless (because it relates to the original), even if you save the file including the exif-info. Also, you apparently you need additional printing software to make use of PIM. This was in the news on this site sometime ago. If you search, you can find out where to download this software. If you've got photoshop, you should also have a program called adobe gamma. With this you can calibrate your monitor. You should be able to find it under start->configuration. When you have calibrated your monitor, you should of course not use the settings on your printer that push up the saturation/contrast of your images, or else you will get Disney-colors. (I made the mistake of using 'digital camera correction' on the 1270 myself). I get good results printing from photoshop, with a calibrated monitor as well as some media profiles for the paper I use (just calibrating your monitor will probably be enough to get pictures that are close to what is on the screen, I just haven't tried that yet). If you want to calibrate your monitor, there are some good tips on (it's where I got what I know about this). Btw, I cant seem to reach the site right now, but it will probably be up again in a few hours.

Color Managment

ICC profiles are pretty big, so you wouldn't want to waste valuable space on a memory card by attaching them to each image. As far as I know, no digital camera does this. So it is a case of remembering what colour space you shot it as and then assigning the image that profile when opening in PS. So it is not a case of converting, just assigning. In PS's colour settings, make sure to check "ask when opening" for missing profiles.
