Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

My whirlpool washer smells like mold. i have checked the water pipes around and under it and there isn't any mold or wetness. It is a top loader and the smell is inside the washer. I have tried running a cycle with a cup of bleach and it has not helped. Should I call a repair person to take off the back so I can look inside? Do you have another idea? I'm open.

I guess you are using liquid detergent - change to powder. also put on the hottest wash to get rid of the smell.
also check you have a water barrier in the drain for the machine

SOURCE: top loader smells like mold.

Bleach or vinegar are harsh chemicals that will dry out the odor-causing residue deep inside your washer. They actually make the problem worse because the residue leaves a base for more detergent and softener to collect on and the mold odor will return! Also, they are dangerous and can cause dangerous gases when mixed.

Kenmore washer mold smell issue

front loader of top loader? For front loaders you need to dry around the front gasket and leave the door open 24 hours after each wash.

Put a couple of towels in the machine and add a full box of Arm and Hammer Baking Soda and do a 90' boil wash. Clean towels and the smell gone.

I get a very strong smell from my maytag atlantis washer. it smells like the sewer. how do i remove that smell?

Confirm that the sewer trap is working. The sewer trap for a washer is the pipe connection where the washer drain hose connects.

It would not be likely that the trap is a problem. Sewer gas and mold can smell similar. Smell around the hose connection. Some older homes just simply had a drain to the outside

Mold will form in the tub under the basket if it is not run weekly. Normal wash cycle in a top loader should keep under the basket clear. If a week or so occurs between use then the problem can be under the basket at the bottom of the tub. Use bleach, vinegar, or baking soda in moderation to clear.

It is more likely that the problem is around the top of the top. this requires opening the top and swinging it back to get access. Make sure power is removed before attempting.

Cleaning a little bleach, soap and water.

Moldy smell inside GE profle top loader washer

Check the pump and make sure that it is draining the water. There will always be a little water left over but you should never be able to hear it very easily. Once you check the pump and make sure it is operating properly check the water sensor to make sure that it is acuratly reading the water hieght. After that take one cup of Vinegar and run a hot load of water will kill the mold and clean your system out

Wash empry with detergent and double bleach with extra hot water. When cycle is complete open the door to the washer and let airdry. When you close the door with it wet it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. You may also not be using the correct detergent or the correct amount of detergent.

SMELL IN WASHER MODEL #MAH5500BWW AND BLACK MOLD

If you are using a high efficiency front loader than you suffer from the same symptoms that these front loaders typically have. The infamous bad smell and mold.. This is quite common because the front loaders actually seal the wash tub area with a water proof gasket around the door and left closed, the leftover water that gasket will get musty and if left untreated, may develop mold. Home Depot sells AFFRESH tablets that you cycle thru the qwasher about once a month and that usually does the trick.. The less desirable method is to wipe the gasket area with a towel or equivalent and leave the washer door open or partially open to air dry. That's been my experience.. Hope that helps !
