When your CPU is staying at 100% run, that means you likely have gotten a virus or some serious spyware. Those can affect your audio and video playback, because some viiruses and spyware attach through your audio/video. try running your antivirys software; you can also try doing a system restore. if that does not work, you will probably have to reformat your hard drive and then do a fresh install of your operating system.

There are many things that might cause your PC to run slowly or restart at time and then. It could be a fragmented disk; fragmented registry; a virus, Trojan, or spy ware; high CPU and/or utilization due to too many programs running; high disk I/O; or something else.

To check your CPU and memory utilization, run Task Manager. You can start Task Manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and then clicking on the Task Manager Button. In Task manager, click on the Performance tab and check CPU Usage and PF Usage. PF Usage is an indicator of memory usage. If one or both of these is high, click on the Processes tab, and sort the columns by CPU or Memory to see what processes are consuming the resource. If you are not sure what the process "Image name" is for, Google the name and you should find what the process is for.

If your CPU and memory usage are reasonable, then you may have a different issue. Even if you running anti-virus software, it may be beneficial to scan your PC with another scanner to check for viruses. No anti-virus software is 100% perfect at catching everything. Here are a few good free online virus scanners that you can run to check your PC:

My Dell Latitude D620 is constantly spiking at 100% cpu, the problem arises especially when running the mouse over any program, it basically locks down my whole computer and nothing will run, it always...

It sounds like there could be a virus on your computer that is using up all of your CPU resources. Try to monitor the processes and CPU usage, buy pushing Ctrl + Alt + Del at the same time. This will open up the Task Manager on XP, or show you a menu screen on Windows Vista and 7, and you can click on start task manager at the bottom. View all your processes and how much cpu usage is being taken up from those processes. Look for the process using the highest cpu usage when it spikes to 100% and please repost the process name!

In the mean time might I suggest running and anti-virus scan, scanning for malware, and spyware as well. If you do not have any of these programs, I would suggest using either AVG, or Avira Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes, and Super Anti-Spyware, all of which are free programs that can be downloaded here!

Copy and paste the links into your browsers address bar...

Avira-- http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/

Malwarebytes-- http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

Why is my cpu constantly running at 100% and my fan constantly running no matter what I do?

it is kind of known issues with vista OS.

Press ALT+Ctrl+Esc or go to task manager -> process-> you will get which process is taking much CPU usages.

Then right click on the particular process and delete it.

This happens most of the time because of the SVHOST.exe

To get rid from it.

Check one of the below solution provided on the forum. This should resolve your issue.

If not then please get back with the screenshot of the task manager process window. So we can determine which process is consuming the max usages of CPU.

My Toshiba satellite pro M10 very slow.

check your system performance thru task manager. check for CPU usage. usually COU usage is 1% to 10%. if your CPU usage would peak from 10% to 100% there is a huge possibility that there is program running on your computer that eats up your memory. Or it could be spyware/malware

100% CPU usage

Hi,

Try to monitor the CPU usage before opening CROME. If it is normal before opening it then there is some process under CROME which takes you CPU usage report to GOOGLE on this. and remove it through Add/Remove programmes under control panel.

Try to use Firefox instead of CROME.

If it happens again then there is some thing wrong with OS( most probabaly Spyware or trozen).

E-System laptop with slow dvd playback

This can be a bit of a tricky one to figure out. My initial response would be that you have another program or process that is causing your computer to play 'choppy' video. When you have a newer computer that was recently working just fine and now all of the sudden the video is choppy, it is usually due to another process using CPU cycles that are so important to video playback.

Start playing a DVD, but don't go to full-screen mode. Open the Task Manager. Right-Click on the task bar and select Task Manager. Click on the 'Processes' tab. There is a column labeled CPU, click on the heading 'CPU' twice. This will order the processes in order from highest CPU usage to lowest. The top two processes will most likely be your DVD player and the process that is causing your choppy playback. If the offending process isn't essential (i.e. anti-virus), then click on said process and then click the "End Process" button.

Hope this helps.
