The problem might not be with the amp. You will need to check the "remote" output from your head unit at the amp end using a voltmeter. It should be ~12.5 volts dc when the head unit is turned on. If there is no voltage when the head unit is turned on, then the problem is not the amp. The head unit may be bad or there may be an intermitant short somewhere in the remote wire.

You can test the amp by removing the remote wire and connecting the remote input directly to the +12v terminal. Use a short scrap of wire. This will (should) manually turn on the amp. Don't forget to return the remote wire to the remote input or the amp will never turn off.

A friend of mine had his remote wire shorted to ground once after he replaced his head unit. Turns out when he slid the new one into the dash opening he pinched the remote wire against the chassis. Frustrating but an easy fix.

My amp stays on but the sound cuts in and out. Some times it takes a good 20 minutes for the sound to start coming out after I turn my amp on. Also my sub sinks in right when I turn my amp on.

Check all connections and fuses. Also make sure your speaker can handle the wattage being put toward the speakers and the OHM load. Try a different amp to see if the same problem happens. Sub sinking in when power put to it means you may have crossed the connections Positive and negative to the speaker. Triple check that your connections are correct and your using the correct wire for the job.

If you are hooking 'blue wire' (remote turn on for amp) to the power antenna wire (usually also blue) from the radio that could be your problem since the antenna only gets power when the radio is used

try using the switched 12 volt wire you used to connect your stereo power

i will assume all other wiring is correct and if so this should fix your issue - if not write me back with as many details as you can about how you have things wired and i will try to help more

good luck!!

The light on my amp is green but no sound

have you got the auto ariel lead from the head unit connected to the remote connection on your amp?
if not then that is your problem, it turns the power on when you turn on the unit. and turns it off when you switch unit off.

hope this helps

it isnt getting enough power and its tripping the internal switch on the amp and putting it in safe mode. either your wire isnt a high enough gauge. you might need a capacitor or you need bigger wire.

Amp problems

The main thing that comes to mind is whether you've checked the in-line fuse on the positive wire. Most amp installations are supposed to have a fuse within 1ft of the battery terminal for just such a reason. Next, if you have a voltmeter of some kind (or know someone who does), check to see if you still have 11VDC-14VDC at the power terminals of the amp. If you do, then check the remote turn-on lead (which is supposed to connect to either your head unit or the ignition). If my memory serves, the remote wire should be high (about 12V) when the amp is being told to turn on and low (less than 2V) when it's being told to turn off.

The amps are probably going into protection mode. The wires are most likely not hooked up correctly. Make sure you have a good ground, good power source, and the remote wire is run correctly. Also make sure the speaker output wires aren't touching each other, and you have the correct ohm load for the amp. What kind of speakers/subs are hooked up and how are they wired?
