Hello,

Clearing the ice build up is a good start, the problem though is the drain pan under the coil in the freezer thats iced up is blocked so when the defrost heater comes on and melts the frost from that coil,it the water is collecting in the freezer and in many cases drips into the fresh food compartment, clearing the drain will resolve your leaking/ice build up issue.THE DEFROST HEATER IS GOOD melting the frost in the first place and hence forth that melted frost stays in the freezer and becomec ice.

Water dripping inside KTLA22EMSS01

Your freezer actually cools your fridge. It sounds like you have ice build up in your freezer behind the back panel. You should be able to unscrew the back wall inside your freezer. A hair dryer should help defrost or keep it open for a few and use a screwdriver to remove the build up of ice. The ice has made its way down the vent and when it hits the fridge it is above 32 degrees so it is melting. Hope this helps. I manage rental properties and have had it happen on a few occasions.

Mattag PSB 2151 Side by Side Fridge/Freezer. Water is dripping out at front corner under freezer side everyday. Defrost Thermostat?

Most likely plugged up defrost drain hole. Do you see any frozen water (ice) in bottom of freezer? If so then remove lower back wall of freezer compartment and use a turkey baster with some hot water to "plunge" the defrost drain tube till the water starts to flow. Clean up excess ice and away you go!!
Good luck!

Water is dripping down the back of the refrigerator inside and pool in the bottom of the refrigerator. Whirlpool/ freezer on top ET-1CHMXKQ02. Freezer is still working and icemaker is still making ice.

Defrost drain tube is clogged. Have to clear this by removing back wall inside freezer and removing the ice build up inside the defrost tray and tube. Very very hot water and hairdryer will help with this process. hope this helps.

Water dripping from freezer onto top shelf of fridge with ice buildup back of freezer

the defroster isn't close enough to the drain to be effective. remove the back wall of the inside of the freezer, remove the excess ice. clear out the ice from the drain using hot water and a turkey baster. there is a kit from whirlpool that uses a piece of metal and a screw around the defrost rod, but I found out that a piece of 14 gauge solid core wire with the insulation stripped off works great too. stick the stripped wire into the drain, 2 to 3 inches, and wrap the rest around the defrost rod.

Frididaire side by side refrigerator- water freezing in bottom

Frozen or Plugged Defrost Drain

On Side By Side Refrigerator

The defrost drain pan is located at the bottom of the freezer compartment behind the back wall of the freezer. On some models the pan is accessible without removing the back panel and others are not.

Once you get to the defrost drain pan use a hair dryer to melt the ice from the pan.

Once the ice is removed use a turkey baster like this one: Turkey Baster http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=428708&PPStack=1

To squirt hot water into the drain hole to clear the drain.

When the drain is clear you should hear or see the water you are squirting into the hole enter the pan under or behind the refrigerator.
