Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I am using a Philips 220WS monitor on a dell precision m60 laptop. I have had it running and its works great. Except that each time I unplug it and use my lap top without it, the next time I want to use it I cannot get it to work at the correct resolution. I have to uninstall all drivers etc and reinstall them. I cannot seem to get a repeat pattern but eventually I get it to work correctly. I can shut down and restart as often as I like, as long as I do not unplug the monitor. As soon as I do I have to start again. I have upgraded the bios, chipset drivers etc. I am running xp service pack 3

unfortunately though I can select the correct resolution (for the philips)on the laptop monitor settings I can only set the resolution above or below the correct resolution on the philips. ie the philips requires 1680 x 1050 but i can only set 1600 x 1000 or 1980 x ??. this is what is frustrating me as the laptop monitor requires 1920 x 1200, but will allow me to set it to 1680 x 1050, but the philips which requires 1680 x 1050 will not. Yet I have had it correct a couple of times over the past week or so, which gets back to the original problem.

Yes this can happen, but you should be able to right click on anempty space on your desktop and select graphics and then change the resolution back to the required size

My dell precision 470 beeps loud for 10 seconds when i turn it on and it has no signal to any monitor any ideas?

Please refer to the beep error codes for your work station here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ws670/en/ug_en/advtrbl.htm#wp1058075

Usually a 10 second beep is an issue with RAM not detected/installed or an issue with CPU

I have an FX5800 Nvidia CAD card with 4 GB ram, for high end graphics rendering. It is installed in a Dell Precision 490 with dual Xeons and 64gb of ram > I fire up the computer and it runs ok but...

It sounds like the card is bad. If it came with the computer, I suggest getting in contact with Dell.
http://support.dell.com

The two beeps are a post error, most linked with a bad Video card. If it is still within the warranty period, it's best to get the part changed.

Thanks, Please Rate. :-)

Dell precision 490 led 1 & 4 on

If you are getting no video at all, then we can use the diagnostic LEDs and the power LED to help determine the failure.

Dell precision m90 overheats randomly

Either your motherboard has gone bad, or you fan AND cooling grid needs replacement. The grid is simply a series of metal bars, so to speak, which absorb heat to be passed out of your system with the cooling fan. The cooling fan has 2 speeds. If the system is not kicking in the higher speed on the fan, it's more than likely a bad motherboard. Also, make sure you keep your laptop plugged into the wall as much as possible. Going on battery alone does slow down the processor considerably to conserve the battery.

Best wishes.

Which graphics card should I get to run a panasonic 50' plasma?

A better video card will allow more dimensions like 1440x900 or something bigger, which will make it look better, but it wont make the size of the screen any smaller.

Dell dimension monitor not working flashing on when unplugged and plugged back in

hi Fshumway, time to change your monitor, it is a problem on this kind of monitor, it is 20" ? or somekind of energy problems, or in the cable conector in , to your computer, is bad. If you have other monitor, use it, and see if work fine.
