Question about Lexmark Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

When attempting to print on my Lexmark X75 I get an error that "operation could not be completed. The print spooler service is not running." I have not deleted my printer from the hardware, however no printer is listed. I began to experience this problem after upgrading to Windows XP. I have always gotten excellent performance from the X75 whether printing, copying, or scanning. Please help!!!!!! I have been trying to resolve this issue for four months. When I need to print anything I have to email it to a friend and they print it. I'm afraid I am going to lose a friend. Thanks, Dana

When I go to control panel I do not have a performance and maintenance option. What now?

My problem is still not resolved and I have already posted an additional comment. What is the normal time frame for additional assistance to be provided when encountering a problem while trying the first solution?

It could be the Print Spooler service on your computer. Make sure the service is running. - Browse to Start -> Run... and type in "NET STOP SPOOLER" (this will stop the print spooler service)

- type in "NET START SPOOLER" (this will restart the print spooler service)
Try to print again.

Hi Basti here,
Try this...
If you are receiving SPOOL.SVC or PRINT SPOOLER ERRORS when trying to uninstall/reinstall your printer, or when trying to print a document or access the printer properties, please follow the steps below.

The following are examples of some of the messages you may be receiving:

Spool.svc is not running. Make the service active and try again.
Printer Properties cannot be displayed. The print spooler service is not running.
Printer cannot be removed. The print spooler service is not running.
Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup.
(When clicking Add Printer) Operation could not be completed.

NOTE: Only these types of errors warrant the troubleshooting steps clearly defined below.

Resolution:

SPOOL.SVC is an operating system function which carries files through the operating system for printing. It must be STARTED (active) to be able to print or access any printer's functions. This file usually starts automatically with Windows, however operating system issues may cause it to become stopped. You cannot uninstall or reinstall a driver while this service is stopped.

Please try the following to start the service again:

1) Click on START, right click MY COMPUTER, left click MANAGE.
2) On the left column, double-left click SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS, then click SERVICES.
3) Locate and highlight the PRINT SPOOLER on the list of Services.
4) Click START THE SERVICE.

If errors occur and the service cannot be started, there is another issue within the operating system itself.

  4. Locate and right-click on Print Spooler, and then click Stop from the drop-down menu.
  5. Right-click Print Spooler again, and then click Start from the drop down menu.

How do you copy without using the software?

...ok, here is the problem solving page for the X75 at Lexmark.com:

http://support.lexmark.com/index?locale=en&segment=SUPPORT&startover=y&userlocale=EN_US&question=x75&productCode=LEXMARK_X75&page=answers&detectedProductFacet=CMS-CATEGORY_REF.LEXMARK.PRODUCTS.ALLINONE.LEXMARK_X75&searchid=1256445628336#1

...and here is the user's guide pages and setup info::

http://www.lexmark.com/publications/eng/x75/index.html

Please try the 'test sheet' (or sample printout' first) before you attempt anything else. You DO need the software to access the spooler memory cache and/or store a document before printing. See if you can
run the direct USD test program and test it from your system.

I have a lexmark x3550 and it says there is no spooler, and now it says there is no printer.

Verify that that the Print Spooler service, and all the services that it depends on, are correctly installed and running.
  • Open the Services Management Console (click Start, Run and enter services.msc).
  • Double-click the Print Spooler service to open its Properties window.
  • On the General tab, check that Startup type is Automatic.
  • Select the Dependencies tab.
  • Note all of the dependent services listed, then close the Print Spooler Properties window.
  • Repeat the above steps for the dependent services noted.
If any of the dependent services are missing or cannot be started, try uninstalling all installed printer drivers and then reinstalling them.
If this method cannot be completed or does not resolve the problem, try Method 2.
Method 2
Remove all Print Spooler service dependencies other than the Remote Procedure Call service.
  • Click Start, Run and enter sc config spooler depend= RPCSS (there must be a space after "=" but not before it.)
By removing the other dependencies the Print Spooler service should be able to run, but the printer functionality may be affected, and it may be necessary to reinstall the printer drivers.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
