Finally figured it out. The red wire for focus came undone. We took it back to the repair shop, got it home, tweaked it and it's fine.

    Thanks for the help!

How do you adjust the focus

The flyback transformer located in the rear of the tv, might have to take back off( usually some have holes to adjust from back). There will be two potentiometers on the back of the flyback. Top one is screen, bottom one is focus. Put a mirror in front of tv and adjust the focus potentiometer.

I'm trying to fix my 21 inch JVC TV, its on standby mode i detected the problem it was Horizontal output transistor, when i replace it with new one it work but after 24 days it got shorted again so i...

depending on circuit design in some TVs when flyback becomes defective then (1) only flyback gets deffective or (2) flyback & 1 transistor big in size fixed near flyback gets deffective or (3) flyback, big transistor & resistor or diodes or some times ICs will get deffective ..........so flyback replacement is compulsory + which ever components gets deffective ....... usually flyback gets deffective after 4yrs (between 4yrs to 12 yrs depending on TV brand & usuage ) .............so in your case along with horizontal transistor replace flyback also ..................... Remove that flyback from main board ? using marker make a mark (1 dot on knob & at the same line put another dot on flyback --- these 2 dots should be in same line ) on all the knobs on fly back ....now turn all the knobs one by one in anticlockwise direction slowly until it stops .... Then observe from the mark which you made before turning .. --- you will get an idea which knob howmuch it was turned in anticlockwise direction.... now take flyback to electronic shop & buy same type ( equivalent will not work )......at the shop itself check part number , number of pins & their position of old flyback with that of new flyback ----- everything should match 100% - nothing less nothing more .... it should be exact .... check many shops...now turn all the knobs of new flyback in anticlockwise direction very very very slowly until it stops....now fix it to mainboard very slowly & carefully....don't forget to connect red wire from flyback to TV TUBE ...again iam repeating don't forget to connect red wire from flyback to TV TUBE .... Now observe mainboard carefully whether any connector is not connected ....now connect only tv powercord & stay at a distance & switch on Tv for 2 seconds & then switch of immediately....during this 2 seconds TV gets on & led also gets on continuosly (won't blink) & there should not be any smoke or sounds on main board ...this confirms you have replaced flyback without disturbing other components & not shorted any joints..... so now again switch on tv ..wait 3 or 4 seconds ...led will be on but there won't be any picture ... Don't worry ....in the beginning you have observed howmuch knobs on your old flyback were turned in anticlockwise direction....remember..? see your old flyback again.... Now using suitable screew driver turn all the knobs on new flyback in clockwise direction one by one very very very slowly ...untill as it was in old flyback ( approximately ) --- remember TV is in on condition ... means high voltage will be there ... bymistake if you touch any part of the tv .. you will get very severe shock.... So be very very very carefull ..now while doing this adjustment observe what is happening on the screen - how brightness is changing ... Now switch off tv....connect signal ( antenna or dvd or cable..) & again switch on TV ....so now depending on brightness & clarity of the picture ..looking at the tv screen again you have to turn 1 or all the knobs on flyback either in clockwise direction or in anticlockwise direction very very very slowly ..once you start doing this adjustment practically then automatically you will come to know which knob should be turned . in which direction - & howmuch it has to be turned .... But remember this adjustment is very important .. Sometimes it will take 30mins to finalise the exact position.of knobs .. so take your owntime & finalise the exact position of those knobs..then switch off tv ..fix back the tv cover .. then switch on tv again ....that's all .......100% GUARANTEE again your tv will work normally ....vishnuswamy_23.jpg

My Horizontal transistor is not working what should i do?

EHT ( also called as flyback transformer ) should be replaced....... {{ few details about EHT---- its size will be around 3inch X 2inch X 2inch ---it will have 2 or 3 knobs to adjust focus , brightness ------ at bottom around 10 pins will be there ------- from EHT 1 thick red colour cable goes to CRT TUBE --------- on EHT its part number will be there }} -------- so if user is a technical person having idea about components ( resistors, transistors, diodes, etc ) , having tools like multimeter ( to check components) , soldering iron, soldering lead, flux, desoldering wig ( for removing components), etc also little experience in servicing field( compulsory) ----------------- then user can remove EHT from main board ---- take to electronic shop ----- buy same type EHT --------- fix to mainboard ( knobs on EHT should be adjusted according to picture --- after switching TV --- this adjustment is very important ) ----------iam from bangalore (09986222774, sathyavijayasarathibabu@ymail.com) ----- here EHT's price will be around Rs 250 ( US $ 6 ) & for my customers (in bangalore) i will take another Rs 500 (US $ 11) as service charge......i don't have any idea about EHT ' s price & service charge in your place.........since it is very risky job i suggest to contact TV service engineer ------- because they are highly experienced & can fix this component very easily...............YOU HAVE TO REPLACE HORIZONTAL TRANSISTOR ALSO

I have a 32" GE regular crt TV. Everything was fine and when I woke up the next day it would not turn on. Keeps making a clicking sound every few seconds like a solenoid trying to close..

Sounds like a probable shorted Horizontal Output Transistor (hot) Hopefully thats all. Sometimes the flyback will fail as well. If your not familiar with electronics I would recommend a tv shop repair. If its just the HOT transistor average repairs are 75-110 depending on your location.

I have a Zenith C27A24T the picture is out of focus.

If there is no other problem, he probably touched the focus adjustment in the back of the set. Open up the back and locate the flyback transformer (part with large red wire coming out the top). There will be 2 adjustment controls on it. One should be labeled screen, the other focus. Adjust the focus until crisp.

Hey good morning guys

Depending on the model # most of the time it is a bad flyback transformer . If it also has the high pitch squeal the horizontal transistor is bad as well . Just a clicking noise bad flyback. Some of the originals are not available and a generic is the only replacement. A repair shop may charge between $80 to $135 to repair so shop around . Ask them if there going to use a generic as they are cheap $20 to $30 . Good luck

Tv not working

hi the problem you are having is going to be one of the most common problems with that type of telly the problem is going to be the flyback transformer needs replacing and also the transistor neads replacing its the one located nearest to the flyback transformer and it will be on a heatsink.
If you are unsure what im telling you then you shouldnt risk the repair yourself as the telly has power stored in it even when its unlpugged it might not kill you but you will get a nasty shock as the voltage is amplified inside the telly so is greater than 240v so dont mess with it unless you are sure what you are doing.
If you are doing the repair yourself then you need to get the schematics so as you can get the test points that you can test using multimeter and osciloscope this telling you whats exactly wrong as a resistor or two could have blown when the transistor failed also the schematics will give you part numbers.
The transistor and any resistors are easy to replace but you nedd to protect the new ones from heat damage when soldering the new ones in you need to dispurse the heat using clips or something similar.
Now the difficult bit is unsoldering the flyback transformer this carrys high volts of electric and will give nasty shock if you dont dispurse the electric charge first you need to short across one of the caps to earth but you need to know the right one.
to remove flyback it regiures alot of unsoldering and resoldering possibly causing damage to the new one during soldering is easily done.
If you are going to get someone else to do the work like repair shop your looking at about £45 uk or $80 to $90 us so you need to think is it worth it let me know if you need further assistance ok

Rca 27v414t shut off by it self after a feww seconds.

Most likely the TV is detecting an internal problem with it's circuitry and is shutting itself off to prevent further damage. You'll need to have a professional look at your set to determine exacly what's going on. Aside from leaving the power cord unplugged for five minutes, then pluggin back in and trying it again, there's nothing anyone can do from here. It may work, but it's a long shot.

Hope this helps, and please rate my advice, good OR bad.

Good luck!

Green is going, going, gone?

I would suggest check the the secondary side of the power supply for around 130VDC if that voltage is found to be lower than 120VDC I would suggest to replace CP80 with a 100 mfd@250 vdc. Part # 218374
Check Globalsemi.com for these parts.
