I have problems with colors on my SONY SDM S73 LCD. Many of lighter colors are not displayed at all. I tried to update a driver, chanfe resolution, nothing changed... I use WinXP SP3 with RAGE 128 PRO...

tlnwiayqydee, In terms of lcd monitor age, unit is VERY OLD. Cold cathode fluorescent lamps will need to be changed for new ones. Very hard to do for consumer/user!!! Best if you trade-in for new unit. Did you even look at the "date of manufacture" on back of unit? Look here for lamp information: and and and You will need to also visit YOUTUBE for video clips of units being repaired. 12fixlouie

I have a 19" StarLogic FTf LCD monitor that comes on for a second and the goesw blank.

wallybanq, All Cold cathode fluorescent lamp back-lit monitors use same basic design and principle of operation!!! Your unit no different. Do you know how to evaluate monitor internal power supply status with aid of bright flashlight?? You will porbably need to investigate and repair the "switch-mode-power-supply" internal to the unit. Read fixya profiles of "budmrtn" "buddymc" "12fixlouie" for DIY repair info. Some "black screen of death" units can be repaired for less than $8 if you have or can borrow a 40 watt soldering pencil and some solder. Also check out the video clips at YOUTUBE. Also check out this site: Once you know what it is that makes the FIXYA web page "white", then you will know just how similar those new "curlieQ energy efficient, CFL light bulbs work. Good luck with the repair. 12fixlouie

Hi,WHEN I power up my screen it flashes on momentarily then goes off and no power light indicator! any ideas. Black screen.

h_ba_adams, Sorry, Retrevo .com lists this unit as "time to retire".. Your unit suffers from a bad power supply that goes into "shutdown mode" when it detects a problem with itself or another circuit! Remember this! Your "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp", back-lit lcd display isn't any different than any other brand in it's design and basic mode of operation!! View some lcd monitor repair videos at YOUTUBE. Then you can make decision if you will repair (DIY) or trade-in for new unit. Do reply if this was helpful and give this a rating on fixya.

Display flickers, no image is displayed, buzzes at same time it flickers. tried it on multiple computers, same thing

jglendenning, If not into soldering irons, solder, meters, and electronic repair of "switch-mode-power-supplys/cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp ballast-circuits" then trade for new unit! Retrevo .com lists K717s as time to retire unit. Before you do anything check out the longer and more useful video clips at YOUTUBE that deal with "lcd monitor disassembly" and "lcd monitor repair" FYI so you at least know what is inside a typical desktop CCFL back-lit LCD monitor. 99% use same basic design and principle of operation no matter what brand of unit you have or will purchase in future!!! Hope this helped some. 12fixlouie

At infrequent times , the monitor L17PS Goes pinkish and there is a flickering of horizontal lines

victor_adams, If reconnecting the VGA cable to the pc several times won't cure problem, may need to fix or refurbish the units switch-mode-power-supply and or replace the cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps with new ones! Not an easy task for newbie!!! Retrevo. com says its time to retire this unit and get new one. Visit YOUTUBE for video clips of lcd monitor disassembly and lcd monitor repair before you jump into trying to repair/refurbish this old unit!!! 12fixlouie

Monitor started flashing then went almost black, very, very faint.

ivanging, Happens a lot!!! You will be able to see screen if you hold flashlight 1" from screen. If unit out of warranty, you or qualified cold cathode fluorescent lamp back-lit lcd monitor technician will need to find root cause of lamps not lighting-up for you to see all the colorful text and graphics. Reading is free on fixya!!! All you need to know has already been written and documented here on fixya. Get yourself into the FIXYA profiles of "louie12fix" (my old file) and "buddymc" , "budmrtn" and follow all links you find there!!! Just remember to return to this posting and write a testimonial about all you have learned about why ccfl back-lit lcd monitors fail. Your unit has good chance for complete recovery from it's "black" but not "blank n black" screen state.
Do some reading and visit YOUTUBE for DIY repair videos to make decision to repair or contract out repair work or just trade for new. Good luck with whatever direction you take. 12fixlouie

Where can I find instructions on replacing the backlight on benq fp731?

jsiwiec, Are you absolutly certain that the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" need replacing, or if the "switch-mode-power-supply"/"CCFL inverter supply" is not working and is in shutdown mode? CCFL's are not some kind of miniature version of those energy efficient screw-in new style, curlie-Q cfl light bulbs you buy at the local home-center!!! In any case here are some places to checkout first. , , ,, You do know that most times the problem is not the lamps. Did your LCD display have bright, crisp, colorful images displayed on the lcd panel 2- 3 days before black screen happened? How many TOTAL "ON" hours of use on this BenQ FP731 ? When was unit produced? Good luck with repair. Hope info was helpful.

My fpd 1730 moniters brightness and contrast are terrible, and i cant get the controls to work

nonnie707, It is very possible that your monitor's internal or external (lay on floor) "switch-mode-power-supply" has a problem. Prove that your pc is working by connecting KNOWN GOOD monitor to your pc!!! If you are not electronics technician then you will need to question Gateway as to warranty service or possible swapout for a REFURBISHED unit if your unit is deemed as premature failure. May cost $ for swap. READ my FIXYA profile and that of other FIXYA TECH's (buddymc, budmrtn) for more options as to "what to do"!!! Remember, If very strange and weird things start to happen (occur) with "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" backlit LCD display, the first place I would investigate would be the units "switch-mode-power-supply" Good luck with the repair. 12fixlouie

Back light goes out after about 15 minutes.

ayonbaxter, You will need to determine if unit has one or more of these things as the cause of your BACKLIGHT FAILURE. 1. Bad solder joint on printed circuit board. 2. Swollen, leaky electrolytic filter capacitors on switch-mode-power-supply/inverter circuit board. You will need to search youtube for video clips that deal with just that type of failure mode to understand things like "bad caps" "frosty" "cold" solder joints and how to effect a possible repair to your unit. Learn all you can about poor soldering and THERMALLY INTERMITTANT solder connections of passive & active (solid state devices) components on the power supply boards that power your LCD backlights (cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps) CCFLs!!! Tons of info all over the web!!! Then you will know what ails your LCD monitor. Hope this helps you. 12fixlouie
