Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

  2. SPEAKER SHORTED.
  3. TOO MANY SPEAKERS WIRED IN PARALLEL.(THE ohms rule violated)]
  4. the amps side is failing.
  5. the overload detector is bad, telling lies, and shutting it down.
  6. try no speakers, to see if it trips.
  7. It is 1999 and is old. even bad caps inside now.
only does
Digital inputs: coaxial, optical
Video Connections: component, composite, SVHS
the rig has fan sensor failure and over temp too, and the service manual covers that.
see protector DRIVE here, it shuts down all outputs via relays.

Trouble shooting a magic chef refrigerator

The click you hear is the overload protection. The compressor is drawing too much current at start up. This can be from a bad start capacitor or a failed motor inside the compressor.

Fix onkyo ts-sr313 turn on problem

If the relay clicks on and then off straight away then it might have detected an overload condition and so shuts down. Overloads can be caused by faulty speakers or wiring. But if the damage is done already then one of the main power amp transistors or other devices could be short circuited.

When i turn on my beer machine. It turns on and then makes a click noise and shuts down. No cooling at all anymore

What your hearing is the KliXon thermal overload tripping. The compressor is not starting and the thermal overload is trying to protect the compressor.

This can be caused by 3 things.

1. A locked rotor on the compressor. (bad news)
2. A failed PTC relay on the compressor
3. A failed run capacitor.

Usually a PTC relay and a run capacitor will bring it back to life unless the compressor is actually seized.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Fridge question

Sounds like you mad have a bad relay or overload on the compressor. I would also check your condenser fan motor to make sure its running and blowing air on the compressor to cool it. If its not running the compressor may be overheating and shutting off on its overload. If the condenser fan motor is running I would assume that you would need a new relay and overload it will come in a kit. Usually it will make a clicking sound when the compressor is TRYING to start and then shuts off on its overload if the start components are bad.
Hope this helps _MJ_

Kenmore Upright Freezer Works Sometime

try a new start relay and overload kit specifically for the make and model freezer you are working on. if compressor can be seen ,the numbers on it can be used to get correct oem start cap, relay ,and overload. if your unit is having starting problems that will usually fix it. if however, the stat is failing to bring it on a new stat is called for. but it sounds like it is having starting problems since you said it was off a long while then still struggled on the overload to start then finally did. if the new start components don't work then new freezer time. compressor replacement is to expensive anymore. good luck
