Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

4 Answers

GE Range My one unit GE oven/microwave needs parts for the oven. I cannot find a model number for the oven; have searched everywhere. There is a model number on a label in the microwave (which works fine), JHP7OG, possibly followed by 0M1 but I am told this is not right, or not enough when I call GE. Can you help?

Look at this example for common places where GE puts their model number so that you'll need to waste energy trying to look for it.

GE spacemaker JVM1730 the turntable stopped turning. The next day it started to turn, but stopped. I tried cleaning the parts, but no help

If the oven is STILL heating, but the carousel isn't turning, the symptoms you describe are commonly attributed to a turntable motor that has worn out and may need to be replaced. The motor is attached to the center plastic piece (called a turntable shaft, turntable ring or coupler) under the middle of the glass tray. The following link explains how to access and replace the motor:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3555716-replacing_a_turntable_motor_on_a_microwa

This is a very simple repair, that usually is not expensive. The price will be determined by the model and manufacturer. This repair can also be performed on an over the range model microwave oven WITHOUT uninstalling it.

You can refer to any of the following websites for comparison:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The first three sites listed have helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you with locating and properly identifying the part(s) you may need.

The average price for a motor is about $25 to $45. If your model number is not listed at all the sites, use the part numbers from the Sears site and use them for your search criteria. The model numbers don't always cross reference, but the part numbers do. The part number for a replacement turn table motor for the model you have listed is either WB26X10233 or WB26X10038 (depends upon your COMPLETE model number). If your model number does not cross reference to all websites, use the part number from the Sears website as your search criteria.

NOTE: Even though the carousel may not be turning, you can still use the microwave while awaiting parts. You will need to physically rotate whatever you are heating about midway through the cook time to ensure even heating. Early model microwave ovens were not equipped with a rotating carousel and this was the common procedure.

Re: GE Spacemaker, model # JVM1631BJ03. I need to replace the door. Any suggestions?

The complete door is GE part number WB56X10430. Here's one source that I've done business with, and they say they have it in stock. I checked a few other sites that came back from a Google search, and all the prices were in the $100 to $125 range.

The Sears parts site has good parts diagrams as well as offering the parts for sale.

GE Microwave vent fan replacement.

The part # SMV-260UA runs just under $60 from SamsungParts, depending on which of three versions you choose. You can find them here.

And a simple Google search shows quite a few hits for "SMV-260UA" and they seem to run about $40, assuming the listings aren't bogus - as so many search results are.

I have a few "new old stock" and used vent & cooling fans here.

I would be happy to supply one whole or just the blades if you like.

Just tell me the dimensions: diameter of the shaft hole and the length and diameter of the "squirrel cage" itself and I'll see if one of mine would work.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
