Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

My acer extensa 5620z has just started to shut itself down and restart today. It has done this about 5 or 6 times now in the last hour. The last time I started it up (after powering off), it had sat and cooled off. It has the battery in it, however I am plugged in.

I am sending it back to Acer as I have had the computer just under 1 month. Since it is so new and I do not have the mechanical / technical mind, I will let Acer figure it out. Also, I really appreciate your post, however I did want to let you know the laptop had been on a desk top. It had also been on most of the day - from about 8:30am - 4:15pm - when this started. One more thing - while trying to find online help I did see suggestions of cooling pads. Looks like this may not be a bad idea.

Thank you again for your information and effort.

Well its an overheating issue

looks like there is no air current going inside your laptop so its one of two issues

either you are putting the laptop on some soft area (like bed or sofa).

or (and thats what i think it is) the fan is not working properly or maybe not working at all.

so check the fans because if it is the fan then its normal you will have your computer restarting and shutting off once every 15 minutes range because the CPU is overheating and it should shut down to prevent CPU from getting damaged.

let me know what happened with u

Before shutting down your system click on any programs still running and shut them down. This will cut the time for normal shut down to take place.

You could also run a hard drive diagnostic to see if it has any errors. There might be some if you don't let the computer shut down itself. Restarting can also cause the programs to become corrupt, if they didn't shut down right. Running a defrag on the drive will also help it shut down quicker.
Look on the net also for information on getting your PC to shut down quicker.

try obtaining a firmware update for your CD or DVD Rom drive and maybe even a bios update for your computer.

My Acer extensa 4420 can't start anymore.... when I press the power button.... it seems like it starts searching for the hard drive... I have no video.... no sound.... nothing.... and then, it restarts...

I think the problem is with the ATI Video drivers. I had the same problem and I went to the ATI site and updated my drivers and the problem has not occurred since. Mine was ATI radeon x1250. Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The graphics card is integrated on the mother board.

keep start button pressed 30 seconds, the pc should turn off. If not brutally unplug the power cable. Do a scan disk on restart.
