There must be a small slot and battery just under the rubber cover on the side where the cable inputs are, which I didn't notice I had lost when I dropped my A520 recently. (This battery maintains the various settings such as the date/time feature.)
If you are still willing to sell the parts of your camera, please let me know as I would need the battery and the little slot piece that holds it in. MCSbummed
I finally figured out that the little round CR1220 battery is located under the rubber cover of the side digital AV connector. Simple solution once you know where to look.

Canon A520 have CR1220 battery as memory backup power. Replace it. It's located at left hand side there is grey rubber cap open it, you will find one more small flap at bottom, gently pull out straight you will see a battery holder remove CR1220 battery replace same type with new one. Normally it lasts for 3 years.
I believe you should do a complete reset. If this can be done through the Menu all good. If not, remove the memory back-up battery for some 30 seconds and re-insert. In most cases this cures the problem. The back-up battery I think (from memory) is next to the AA batteries, a little grey cover with CR1220 stamped on it or something. Good Luck
Time to change out the CR1220 battery that keeps the camera's time. It's located under the rubber flap on the left side of the camera (with the A/V and power inputs plugs). Just pry out its slide door with your fingernail, and take the little battery to your local drug store. It runs about $3 to $4 for a replacement.
You can probably pick up a "broken" A520 on Ebay for $20 or less and use the parts from it. There are always some listed, but there are a few bidders who are in business picking up these cameras and "fixing" them to sell again. Good luck.

I have a "broken" A520 that needs a new LCD. I really don't want to spend another $90 to get it fixed so may be willing to sell it for parts. Let me know. I don't know about any guide for disassembly however.
