Printer error message: does not recognize cartridge
My portable BJC-85 printer (which I have not used for a long time) now gives me an error message (steady flash of light) saying I have wrong cartridge installed. It does that regardless of whether I'm running the black only or the colour & black cartridges (BCI-11/BCI-12 or BCI-10). I know the ink tanks are fine. I purchased new ink tanks thinking that this might be the problem. It did not resolve problem. Still get same error message. Now I'm wondering if the problem is with the green print head BC Cartridges. I've tried both print head cleaning and deep cleaning numerous times to no avail. Replacing those cartridges is very costly. If they are dried out, is there a way to get them to work again? Please advise.

I have similar problem. Print head won't print, then I clean with alcohol, and get rid of old ink inside. But then head seems to just shut down. I have several print heads and printers that have plenty of ink, but head won't work. I refuse to think the print head will break so easily. I used my BJC 85 for YEARS with no problem whatsoever, and suddenly, since last winter, I have 4 printers that have stopped printing.
I usually end up just buying another used printer on ebay until that one stops printing.
Check on Canon.com, for the users manual, When you install cartridges you hold the resume button for the number of beeps to identify which cartridge is installed. You can install one black ink or one each black and color but you have to tell the printer which is installed.
