Hum form both speakers, and moving the speaker cable where it goes into the console starts/reduces/stops the hum. Any solutions out there? Is there a ground wire broken in the connector?

Had this problem for years with my much loved SS5. Only just now i decided to pull it out and fiddle with it some more and have the "humming problem" SOLVED. See description and PICTURES below

-remove the 2 small philips head screws from the speaker plug.
-first note which wires go where, i took a picture.
-take a small object to "lever" up the tiny plastic "fingers" that hold the plug wires in the plug housing, i used a small file, but you can try fine nosed tweezers.
-whilst doing this pull back at the wire at the same time to remove the metal terminal from plastic housing.
-repeat for the remaining wires.

i used small electrical snips to "pinch" the tiny metal plugs to make the connection tighter. I pinched it till there was almost no space between the contacts then re-insert wires till it clicks and it is then locked in place.

replace the housing with the 2 screws, and when you go to plug the speaker back in you will feel it is "tighter". No more humming at all!

-repeat for other speaker. The process of "pinching" may take some practice to get it to fit nice and snug around the connecting pins in the SS5 main unit.

Note; pinch from the bottom flat surface of the metal, and you will see the contact coming closer together. if you do it from the top, it will simply spring back open when you release the pressure.

hope this helps, this problem had me scratching my head for a long time, i even tried re-wiring the plug, when it was simply the metal pins in the housing!

Instructions on programming Nakamichi SS5 radio presets

The solution is really very simple.

This unit is capable of a total of 30 presets.

10 AM presets in 2 groups (AM1 & AM2).
20 FM presets in 4 groups (FM1 - FM4).

Each of the individual groups can have a total of 5 presets.

In other words, there are 6 groups of 5 presets (AM1 AM2 FM1 FM2 FM3 FM4) for a total of 30 presets. Hope that makes sense.

You have preset buttons 1-3 on the top of the unit. Preset button #3 is the MEMORY or "set" button.

Try these steps and you should be up and running.

1. Choose which band you want to use. ie. AM1 AM2 FM1 FM2 FM3 FM4.
2. Tune in a station

3. Click the #1 preset button and watch the screen, let's say that you have tuned into the station FM 100.0, the station frequency is displayed along with the "group" you're in (ie. AM1...FM4) and you will also notice a number in between your "group" id and your station. This is the # you're going to set and the way to change this from 1-5 is simply by pressing the #1 preset button until the # comes up that you want to save it to.

4. Press #3 Preset button (labeled "MEMORY")
5. That's it, now do all the stations you want but be mindful that once you have programmed 5 presets to any given group, you have to move on to the next group until you've maxed out the total # of presets.

Hope this helps.

NAKAMICHI PROBLEMS 50 INCH PLASMA

I got a local company to fix it. They used Panasonic parts, and also said most components are Panasonic. It seems to working fine, though not quite as crisp/sharp. Maybe we got used to the smaller one we bought while it was being repaired.

I bought a used RV as well, and while the manual was not included, we were lucky enough to have the original "90 Day Limited Warranty Card", which provided a toll free number to the Customer Service Department. I called and a copy of the manual is in the mail to me today. 1-800-982-3954, ext 117. Good Luck!
