Enable / Disable an Enterprise Laptop's Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi, short for Wireless Fidelity, is networking technology that allows you to connect to the Internet. If you have a wireless-enabled Latitude computer you can connect to the Internet when in range of an access point called a hotspot.
When not in use your Latitude's wireless card should be disabled. By disabling Wi-Fi, you will receive two benefits:
Start-up times will be much faster.
If the wireless card is ON and you are out of the office (not connected to your normal, wired connection), the laptop will try to use the Wi-Fi network during the login process to run the various start-up scripts, etc. It will eventually time-out (fail). By having the wireless card turned OFF, the start-up process will be much faster.
Computer will not continually search for a wireless network (and waste battery life).
If you are in the office (connected to your normal, wired connection) or in a location where there is no wireless hotspot, you don't need to have the computer waste processing power by looking and looking for a wireless hotspot. By disabling Wi-Fi, you will gain a little more power for your other tasks. In addition, you will maximize your battery operating time by disabling wireless activity.
NOTE: After your Latitude has started up completely, you can ENABLE the wireless card and connect to a wireless hotspot. For example, a wireless router at your home or at a local coffee shop. If you have connected to this hotspot previously, the wireless card should connect automatically for you.
NOTE: Once you have the wireless card enabled, before you shut down the computer, you should again DISABLE the card. The computer will then be ready for the next time you turn it on with wireless turned off.
Enable / Disable with Hardware Switch
The more recent Latitude models have a wireless switch to enable or disable wireless network devices and the
Wi-Fi Catcher Network Locator.
Dell Latitude E6420 and E6520 Series
These laptops have a small switch on the RIGHT side of the keyboard. The switch is toward the front of the laptop. The Wi-Fi Catcher™ icon will is above the keyboard. You will see a lit radio tower if the wireless switch is enable

if you cant connect to wifi on your laptop computer
Turn on your computer and locate the Wi-Fi icon. This could be located on the upper row on a laptop it will have the radiation look ((())) Make sure its pressed on. Usually a wifi enabled phone, computer, or whatever device, will recognize if there is wifi access near you. If not you may need to turn on the wifi on those devices. Usually those setting can be found in menus like Network Settings. Once it recognizes the network you will need the password if it is required. Just enter that in and you are set. Where you enter the password is usually in the same menu in which you turned on your wifi enabled device. if still no connection Power on the laptop computer and wait for the operating system to boot. Right-click the wireless Internet icon in the lower right corner of the desktop. This brings up a new pull-down menu. Select "View Available Wireless Networks." This brings up a selection of different possible Internet connections that are in range of the computer. Select the wireless Internet connection you want to use. If a password is required, you need to type it in now. Wait for the laptop to connect to the Internet. In a moment the computer is going to state it has successfully connected to the Internet. Click Start, Run type in cmd and click Ok to bring up a command prompt. Type ipconfig /all and press enter and see if it gives you an IP address similar to 192.168.1.100. Check your wireless connection properties under My Network Places. Right click the wireless connection icon and choose properties. From there make sure Internet Protocol {TCP/IP} is listed, highlight it and click properties. Make sure Obtain an IP address automatically is checked and Obtain DNS server address automatically is checked. Make sure you Ethernet is enabled in bios restart your computer during the boot up process you will see on your screen a certain key to press to enter set up (BIOS) press and hold that key to enter bios using arrow keys scroll to intergrated peripherals look for SiS On Chip Pci Device press enter scroll to SiS 10/100m press enter make sure its enabled if still no joy Let's first try to start the wireless service i.e. WLAN AutoConfig service manually. To do this, login to the computer as an administrator.

1. Click Start, type services.msc and hit enter.

2. Locate WLAN AutoConfig service, double click on it to open its properties window.

3. Under General tab, change the Startup type to Automatic and click Start button.

No data internet connection

Connecting to the Internet without a Wi-Fi data plan isn't a difficult process even for a novice at utilizing and joining wireless networks. Whether you are looking to join a public Wi-Fi hotspot network or a neighbor's private Wi-Fi network with their permission, get your computer online and browsing the Internet without the use of your own Wi-Fi data plan, saving money in the process. Note these steps to get you connected in just a few minutes.

Move to an area that offers free public Wi-Fi or to an area where you believe you are close enough to pick up a neighbor's Wi-Fi signal. In the latter case, check with your neighbor beforehand to ensure it is allowed that you utilize their Wi-Fi network. Using a private network without permission is illegal. Boot up your laptop. Allow Windows or the Mac operating system to load up fully on the laptop. Click on the wireless icon on your computer's desktop area. In Windows, you will find this icon on the right side of the bottom toolbar. It appears to be a computer monitor icon with small radio waves reaching out of it. Alternatively, on a Mac laptop click on the Wi-Fi icon on the top right toolbar in the desktop area. This icon will look like a set of radio waves extending upward. Look over the list that appears once you click on the wireless icon. This list will present all the wireless network options that are within the range of your laptop. Avoid any that present with a "lock" icon beside them, because these require passwords. If you are looking to join a password-protected network like one offered by a neighbor, request the password ahead of time. In the event of a public network at a local business, a password will not be required. Click on the network you intend to join. Input the appropriate password at this point, if joining a password-protected network. Also, choose the type of security encryption the private Wi-Fi network is using. Your computer will often have this auto-selected, but you may need to select either "WPA" or "WEP" security manually. Click "Enter" on your keyboard. If you do not have the necessary password or are unsure as to the security encryption type, either contact the network administer or click "Cancel" and join a public Wi-Fi network. Allow several moments for your computer to join the network. You will receive a notification on your Windows or Mac toolbar when it does. Launch your Internet browser of choice and begin utilizing the Internet without having to rely on your own Wi-Fi data plan

How do i connect my acer x 3200 to wi fi

SETTING UP A BROADBAND CONNECTION
First you need to decide what type of broadband andInternet service you require and these are -
1. DSL that uses your existing telephone line.
2. Cable that uses a cable service and can include a cable TV service.
3. A wireless 3G network which uses the mobile/cell phone network and can beseparate or combine with your cell phone account
Note - Combined services generally offer discount pricing and may include amodem/wireless router.

If you use a wireless router with the DSL or Cable Internet service and yourlaptop has a wireless card then you can also connect to the Internet at WiFihot spots like McDonalds, Star Bucks, the Airport etc.
If you use the wireless 3G wireless broadband service, then you can access theInternet anywhere where your ISP has 3G wireless coverage. You need to checkthe service coverage area where you need Internet service.
Once you decide what type of broadband your require, then you need to checkwith the various Internet Service providers to see if they can offer and thecost of the various plans.
Note the download limits and the associated additional costs if you exceed themonthly download limits. Once you sign up with a Internet Service provider, their documentation will include setting up instructions and/or installationCD.http://www.fixya.com/support/r6165994-setting_up_broadband_connection
