If there are 2 hose connections then it is hot and cold fill. if only one hose connection, then connect to cold only.
if two hose connections, then connect at ramdom. put on rinse cycle. if hot water comes in, then connections are the wrong way round and just reverse them

I have hooked my machine up to both the hot and cold water taps. However it seems that even if I set the temperature to a cold wash only hot water will fill the machine. Should I only be connecting to the...

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Sorry. Silly question but I have to ask ;-0)
Have you connected them round the right way? The hot water hose should be screwed onto the RED painted position and the cold to the one painted either white or with no colour.
If you are ABSOLUTELY SURE they are round the right way, you machine is malfunctioning!

Will not fill with hot or cold water and is connected

You need good water pressure on hot for these machines to work, gravity fed systems may not be enough. I had to attach a pump to mine to improve the hot water pressure (UK)
Switch over the inlet pipes ie hot to cold and cold to hot and try filling the machine when switched to fill with hot water, (machine will fill will cold). proving the valve is opening and it is a pressure issue on you hot water.

The flow of the cold water seems to be restricted. The hot water pores into the tub. The cold trickles in. After disconnecting the cold hose, hot water back feeds out of the cold input side of the machine....

Hi,

If your washing machine will not fill, only hot or cold will fill or is slow to fill then read these tips. I have covered many of the things that can happen in these tips…

My softner compartment is not emptying.

I know this may sound silly, but I have seen this problem solved on many occasions by cleaning the filter screen(s) in your cold water supply hose!
This is because the softener dispenser must fill with cold water (on top of your softener liquid) in order to start the siphoning off of the softener. If the cold water supply is restricted, the dispenser will not receive enough water begin the siphon effect.
Now before you tear things apart, try this test...
Begin a wash cycle by filling with HOT water, and observe (listen to) how fast the tub is filling for a few seconds... Now change the wash temperature to COLD, and notice the difference in water flow. If you detect a noticeable decrease in water flow... Clean the cold water hose screens!
How? Unplug the unit! Turn the cold water valve off, and remove the hose. (If you did the test above, you will easily feel which hose is the cold one.) Use a small brush and a squirt bottle to clear the screen inside the inlet to the washer, and also check the end of the hose where it attaches to the plumbing... some guys put a screen at both ends of the hose. Put it back together, turn the water on and CHECK for leaks.

Another possibility could be a build-up of softener liquid in the compartment drain hose. This can generally be solved by carefully pouring a teapot full of near boiling water in the compartment to flush the hose. Expect to see the compartment nearly full before it starts to drain... it has to fill somewhat before the siphon effect starts the flow of the drain hose.

I hope this helps you!

My problem is that the fabric softener doesn't dispense on my GE front loader WCVH6260 washer. (I rarely use the bleach compartment, so I don't really know if that is working.) The detergent part dispenses...

We have recently bought a Maytag Epic front load washer and F & H keeps comming up...what's the problem?

FH is an indication the the machine is not sensing enough water flowing into the machine....
The only thing you can do without taking the machine apart is to disconnect the water hoses to the back of your machine and inspect the filter screens for any type of debris that might be restricting water flow into the machine. Typically, the cold water line is more susceptible to foreign matter than the hot waterline.
If screens appear OK then the problem may be with the water fill valve, water flow sensor, water pressure switch or blockage in the water pressure switch hose.
