Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Hurricane Gustav just blew through Baton Rouge and we were without power for over twelve hours. When our power was restored the a/c felt wonderful and we were so grateful. The a/c ran well all night and then shut off this morning around eight o'clock. Is there a way to reset the unit? We have checked fuses, the pan in the attic is empty, we tried to just run the fan, but it wouldn't turn on. Any suggestions?

Verify your outside breaker did not trip or the inside breaker. Reset once if it continues to trip have some one check it out. If you have a programable t-stat take it off the wall and remove the battery this will cause it to reset

Why does the radiator fan run quiet when idling, but sounds like a hurricane when pulling away in low gear, then it quietens down after shifting into second?

Radiator fan is required to move air through Probably both radiatro and air conditioning coil. Fan is responding to an increase in the heat it needs to remove (get rid of) from the cooling and or air conditioning system.

After reading over the Owner's Manual for your unit, I wonder if you are operating it in the Cool & Dry Mode. If that's the case, the dehumidifier is in operation, which would account for having to drain the unit every 2 to 3 hours. Ideally, the Cool and Dry Mode should only be operated for about an hour, when the unit is first started . Removing the humidity will allow the AC function to cool more effectively. But, it is not necessary for it to remain in Cool & Dry mode all the time. Because the AC itself unit will remove some humidity too.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the issue of having to drain the unit every 2 to 3 hours

Its hard to say without being there but here are somethings to check. Outside check the thermastat wire onthe condensing unit. I have this problem a lot down on the gulf coast. The wind blows and cause the Tsat wire to rub against the unt and it shorts the fuse. Will run for a while till a storm or winds come up check this first. Next could be bad contactor or relay but most likely the tsat wire. Check back and let me know please. Russ

I recently bought a 4 ton 14.5 SEER Rudd Spilt system using R-410 and matching Rudd furnace. This system replaced a Lennox 10 SEER 4 ton unit. Now that it has gotten hot in Baton Rouge LA 90-93 degrees....

Sounds like the Unit might be low on charge. But without correct readings not sure.
The new unit with 410 will actually cool better due to higher boiling point temp. of freon type.Poor air circulation could also cause problem.Such as dirty filter, too slow fan speed, dirty coil. Also could have obstruction in freon lines either at pump,in line set,or in coil.
Get someone u trust to check it out and ask for their Rudd Dealership Training Credentials.
