I don't understand why Eureka doesnt go with a rubber belt. The belts are strong but stretch too easily. I had a similar fix. I painted the insude of the belt with contact cement. It has to dry at least over night. I didnt think it was going to work, but it works great. Maybe too great. I cant set the height low enough to stop the roller. I was going to do this ,then set it one notch higher.I vacuumed the floor and could smell the machine. I dont know what it was,I think it just got too hot. Anyway you need to increase the friction on the drive shaft in some way.

This problem has unfortunately plagued many owners of this vacuum including myself. I'm not an expert on vacuums, but through some experimentation I found a workable solution. You can first try a new belt, but that will unlikely solve the problem. For some reason the drive shaft becomes too slick for the belt and so the shaft will spin but it won't catch the belt. I wrapped a piece of electrical tape around the shaft for some added friction, and voila, everything started working again. Eventually, the electrical tape shredded a bit and fell off, but it left enough residue on the shaft to retain friction. I know this sounds like a real hack job, but if you've given up hope on everything else, or you can't return the vacuum, it's worth a shot.

My 2 year old Dyson roller head keeps sticking and won't turn unless I bang it several times. Can the roller be worn and needs replacing?

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

Brush won't spin on hoover wind tunnel bag less upright when on carpet, belts are fine

The belts may look fine but may be stretched and worn. Replace them. Make sure brush spins free. Idler pulley should tighten belt tension when handle is released

If the roller brush cannot be rotated easily by hand, it is likely that debris is jammed inside the end caps.Make note of the direction arrows on the end caps as you remove the roller brush. You will need to know this for reinstallation. The end caps are fastened with stop nuts. Removal of one will allow the inner shaft to be extracted for examination and cleaning. An old toothbrush is a good cleaning tool. Reinstall the inner shaft and stop nut. Check for free rotation of the brush roller. Place a new belt over the brush roller and reinstall the brush roller, being careful to observe the position of the arrows on the end caps. Inspect the motor shaft and remove any old belt residue before installing the new belt on the shaft.

Is there a manual for installing new drive belts on my LG Kompressor - we've had it for less than a month and the belt broke. I ordered 2 replacement belts and the new one doesn't work and the brush won't...

You've probably figured this out, but my luv200R had the same problem. The belt broke, I changed it and it still didn't spin the brushes. Turned out, the roller has bearings on either end and one of the bearings was bad and wasn't letting roller roll. So the pulley would spin against the belt and heat up and break it again. I took the bad roller to Sears where they had a new one sent to my house free of charge since it was less than a year old.

It makes a very loud noise and doesnt pick up much

When they make noise like that there is usually an issue with the drive system (the belt and roller brush). I would try cleaning off the roller brush and putting a new belt on. You can access the roller brush and belt by turning the vacuum over so the brush faces up. There is a cover plate over the roller brush which can be removed by removing the (4) phillips screws. with the cover plate off, you can remove the brush and old belt. clean the brush off really good and put it back with a new belt. This is normal maintenence for this model and should be done every 6 months.
You can get the replacement belt here:
