SOURCE: Olympus SP-570UZ-zoom error

Had 570UZ for 2 weeks and "ZOOM ERROR" occured. Seemed hopeless. Changed batteries several times, bought new Alkaline.
No change. Finally decided that it is probably a connector problem.
Turned Camera Off. Held Camera by the lense barrel. Held palm of other hand and thrust the back of the camera ( LCD side) into the
other hand. The idea being to jostle the camera contents without cracking the LCD. Did this a couple of times, turned camera on and it works fine. At least for this evening. At least for now it seems like a classic component connector problem somewhere inside the camera.

Your zooming funtion is damaged. so I suggest you please visit service center for repair. But please confirm me before that your battery are fully charged . If not then charged that fully then then try to use. Follow the picture of damaged place of zooming funtion.

Battery drainage

20 to 30 shots on "fresh" batteries! Do you use the flash on all shots. That really drains them. I would try to set the camera to "factory default settings" in case you changed something that is causing a drain. I hope you just bought some bad batteries.

The best thing I EVER bought for my Olympus was the Re-chargeable Lithium Ion batteries. The worst thing I did was buy an off brand. That was a waste. I ended up getting the more expensive brand Olympus recommended and all was GREAT again!! 1,000's of pictures later and they still work great.
Good Luck

Zoom Error

I think a grain of sand was blocking the zoom tubes. This will not work if the camera has been dropped & the zoom apparatus is bent. It is entirely at your own risk & may invalidate any guarantee but they may charge anyway if you have got sand in. I cut a finger of 80gm computer paper 1cm X 5cm. Inserted this first  around outer zoom tube & worked it all around. It goes in quite deep so be gentle. I switched on to open zoom & tipped out batteries before it had time to close & repeated procedure. When I put batteries back in it worked OK. I repeated procedure with lens fully extended. I found a thin bit of plastic packing worked better as it did not kink so easily. It is still working today having failed 100% before.

IR-300 Olympus

I had what sounds like the same problem. The camera was dropped and the shutter was stuck open. Just kept showing error message.
As I felt I had nothing to lose I began tapping it on a soft book and the shutter started to appear. I then shut it just using the end of my finger. When I then turned the camera on again it opened and shut when turned off. It has worked fine ever since.
Seems a rather poor design.
Hope this helps. Very best regards Peat.

Left power on

Hey raggedarmi,
Leaving the camera on for an extended period of time should not cause the camera to no longer turn on. Make sure the lens cap is not on the camera when you turn it on, and make sure you are not using manganese batteries because they don't work with this camera. The camera will not operate while connected to a computer so make sure you are not connected to a computer. The camera might be in sleep mode so try pushing the shutter button or hitting the zoom lever. If none of these options work try putting in a brand new set of AA batteries and see if that works and if it does it probably means your rechargeable batteries are bad.

Sincerely,
Allan

Zoom Error

We had this problem for about 2 weeks, we discovered that having the camera auto retracted after the "ZOOM ERROR" message, giving the camera couples of light slaps (slap the camera's LCD side and aim the camera down), this fixed the camera right away

Olympus Stylus 730 Digital - Won't work 60 days old

I'm having the exact same problem. I was in the middle of zooming on a shot and it froze, so I turned the camera off and on, and now I get the 5-chimes+Zoom Error screen. This is nuts, I've only had the thing for six months, and it was $250 (got the Stylus 730). I *think* I got a replacement plan so that's good. But still... I hope circuit city lets me get a different brand b/c I'm not happy with this now. The only problem I had before was the HORRID shutter delay. I want a model that doesn't have that problem .
