Question about Canon CanoScan LiDE 500F Flatbed Scanner

2 Answers

Won't start When I tried to use my scanner today it made a 'moaning-grinding' sound when I plugged in the USB cord and then nothing happens. None of the four scanner buttons produces a result and the start-up screen does not appear on the MAC screen. Is it dead?

Thanks for the help. I went to the 'applications' file and clicked on the scanner start-up and it said, "Please unlock your scanner." It took several seconds to locate the small slide-key on the back of the scanner that had inadvertently moved into the locked position. I unlocked the scanner and it is working fine.

I would suggest trying the scanner on another computer available PC or MAC, see if the same problem happens there.

also plug the scanner directly to the computer, without any hubs in the way, also try another usb port.

My 2001 bmw 325 cic started making an awful grinding noise today when moving the steering wheel at all to the left or right. Can also hear the noise under the hood.

It sounds like your car is low on power steering fluid. When the power steering fluid is low, the power steering pump is running dry, which makes a grinding or moaning sound. Check the power steering fluid level and top up if necessary. It should be on the left side of the engine compartment. Your owners manual should have the exact location of the power steering reservoir, and what type of power steering fluid to use.
Good luck

Hi there, I have a solution for you. Unplug the printer/scanner for 30min. then plug it back in again.
This will reset all functions. The usb cable was good to start with, you didn't have to replace it..
When you run a print over another print it will jam up memory in printer. Clear all print jobs and you will be good to go.

try a known good USB cable, or at least try using a different USB port on your PC. Also, see to it that your USB cable is not weaved through power cables as they may create interference.
On a different note, does your printer show any signs of life when you plug the power cord in: LCD blinks and stays on with a "Ready" message, does the printer align heads, rolls in paper etc? If none of these things is happening when you plug in the power cord then you may be dealing with a bad power supply or a bad printer altogether.

I replaced the switch the cord and checked the brushes everything looks fine but it won,t work. Help

Interesting. I looked at the following URL to see if there was any safety device that might prevent it from working and I see none:
If there is nothing happening when you pull the trigger, the only thing you can do is trace the wiring from the power cord through the trigger and to the motor contacts, as shown in the aforementioned URL diagrams. I assume the motor has not seized up on you since you did change the brushes. Not to sound foolish, but did you try changing the outlet you plugged the saw into? In some of the higher end equipment there is an inline fuse that is part of the AC plug assembly. Any chance that is part of the new cord? Blown or missing in-line fuses?
Please keep me informed of your progress as I find this quite interesting. Paul

When I turn on the scanner the light flashes but nothing happens the light never goes solid and nothing moves

I had this problem for a long time, but the scanner still worked. I went to adaptec dowload page, finally today, as I was getting concerned about the flashing green light on the scanner and today, I started to get error messages saying that there is no scanner connected to your computer. So download the latest SCSI Card update for your machine. I have an Apple Mac OS X. Your computer is obviously not recognising your SCSi card, if you have one. If you don't have one then I am not sure what to suggest, if your scanner connects using usb. I hope this helps.

When I plug in the M407 camera nothing happens

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Samsung S85 camera , USB Error?

Check the USB port on the camera for signs of debris or corrosion. There also is a USB driver chip on the main system board that could go out, but that is pretty rare. Maybe your pet chewed on your USB cord. Double check.
