Two extra digits at beginning

I have a LS2208 scanner that is adding two zeros to the front of the barcode when scanned. I'm using Code 39. How can I get rid of these zeros.

Thanks.

Uses the same settings as other scanners and they work fine. I've reset to default and tried again with the code book. Same result.

You can use the code book to clear any prefixes that may have been set on the scanner or you can try a factory reset (using the code book)

How to program a bar code scanner to have 2 Tilde in prefix

Hi, to program two tiles before the data you must use Advanced Data Formatting bar codes from the LS2208 Product Reference Guide. You will need to print and scan the following barcodes:
Begin new rule
Send tilde
Send tilde
Send all data that remains
Send enter key (if you need an enter after the data )
Save rule
Go to the Motorola Solutiond Support Portal and search for LS2208 PRG. The guide has also been stored on Fixya.com

How do i program the LS2208 not to send the EAN-13 check digit and send ENTER key / carriage return

LS2208 needs a ADF Rule added to it to send the "Enter" on the end of all code. Scan123 is also an easy solution. Download it if you don't have it. Basically in Scan123 select the type of scanner you are working with, then select the ADF Rules tab. Make a new rule that says ANY Code, Any Length, and then under actions I put Line 1 "Send all that remains" Line 2 "Send Numeric Key <Enter>. Save the rule. Then select the Symbologies Tab, Select UPC/EAN Tab and select what options you want. Then select the Print Icon, Tick Symbologies , ADF Rules & Programming BarCodes boxes. Print them out and then scan them into your scanner. Job done

Hi, can ls2208 scan a memorex 9840 tape bar code label? Understand that in conform to the Code 39 Barcode Specification. It doesnt seem to work. thank you.

Hello khlai. The quick answer to your question is: Yes. An LS2208 can decode (read) code 39 barcodes. However, since you are reading a barcode on a tape, I would predict that the symbology is actually 'Trioptic Code 39". Trioptic Code 39 is a variant of standard Code 39 that is used for marking computer/tape cartridges. I've uploaded the LS2208 manual to my company's website for you. Just follow these instructions and you'll be right as rain.
  1. Go to www.shiftintoblue.com/resources/ls2208_manual.pdf and save the manual to your computer (or print directly from the web.)
  2. Go to and print page 194 (12-28) that contains the Trioptic Code 39 barcodes.
  3. Take the printed page and scan the barcode labeled "Enable Trioptic Code 39".
Then you're all done! That should fix the problem. If you have any other problems, feel free to send me a message or email me. I hope this helps. Good luck!

LS 2208. I have to add preffix ^ to Code 39 and suffix @ to

The easiest way to do this would be to write two Advanced Data Formatting rules using the LS2208 Product Reference Guide at this link (I suggest saving a copy then printing the pages from that saved copy)

http://support.symbol.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=5880806apdf&sliceId=&dialogID=118232754&stateId=0%200%2012083692

You should scan the following barcodes in order:

Begin New Rule Adobe page 232 of 342
Send All Data that Remains Adobe page 246 of 342
Send @ Adobe page 272 of 342
Save Rule Adobe page 232 of 342
Begin New Rule Adobe page 232 of 342
Code 39 Adobe page 235 of 342
Send ^ Adobe page 275 of 342
Send All Data that Remains Adobe page 246 of 342
Send @ Adobe page 272 of 342
Save Rule Adobe page 232 of 342

Scanning the barcodes in this order will make the scanner send an @ after every barcode scanned other than Code 39. Code 39 barcodes will get the ^ before the data and an @ after the data.

I would like to transmit EAN-13 bar code without check digit, but closed by ENTER.

If you would like the LS2208 to transmit only the first twelve digits of an EAN-13 barcode followed by an enter you will have to write an Advanced Data Formatting rule using barcodes from the LS2208 Product Reference Guide found here: http://support.symbol.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=5880806apdf&sliceId=&dialogID=114420371&stateId=1%200%20114410810

The barcodes you will print and scan in the order they are listed are:
Begin New Rule
EAN-13 (from the Critera pages of the ADF section)
Send Next 12 Characters
Send Enter key
Save Rule

If all other barcodes require an enter key make sure you scan Scan Options, Data Suffix, Enter (from the same manual or from the Quick Start Guide) before scanning the ADF rule above.

If your barcode is $V scan the following barcodes from the LS2208 Product Reference Guide.
Begin New Rule
Specific String At Start
$ (from the Alpha-Numeric section of the guide)
S (from the Alpha-Numeric section of the guide)
End of Message (from the Alpha-Numeric section of the guide)
Send Control S
Save Rule

That should do it.

I have this situations: my system don't read any code begining with 0, please need this configuration for symbol LS2208. Thank you.

Your scanner must have been delivered with a "Quick Start Guide".
All you need to do is to scan the following barcodes from thar Guide:
1.Set Defaults
2. Scan Options
3.<Data><Suffix>
4.Enter
5.The barecode for whatever type of connection you use (RS232, Keyboard, etc.)

Extra zero

The default setting for this scanner is EAN13 enabled. This means that all 12 character barcodes will be changed to 13 characters by adding a zero in front.
How to Disable:

Open the manual that came with the scanner (it's available to download on the Cipherlab web page if you don't have it).
Find the UPCA Parameters barcodes (currently page 29). The next heading down is Convert to EAN13. You will see the disable and enable barcodes.

1) Scan Enter Setup Barcode (on practically every page of the manual at the bottom). The scanner will beep 6 times.
2) Scan the Convert to EAN13 Disable barcode. The scanner will beep once.
3) Scan the Update barcode at the bottom of the same page.

Your scanner should now read both 12 and 13 character barcodes correctly.

Hope this helps:)

Symbol scanners (several models) not recognizing Code 39 Extended

The barcode must be a Code 39 barcode, not a Code 39 Extended or Full ASCII barcode. The Enable Code 39 Full ASCII must be scanned from the Symbologies section of the LS2208 Product Reference Guide (page 186 of 342). The Enable Function Key Mapping barcodes would have to be scanned if you are seeing something other than the tab happen when you scan into your application. In Word, for instance you will see the italics enable/disbled whenever the $I is encountered in the barcode.

As for the Covert to Code 39 Full ASCII- that is for Wand and Scanner emulation. The setting was having no effect because you were not connecting to either of these hosts.
