Question about HP OfficeJet 4215 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Administrator problems I went to use the scan option and it said I need to run the device software. When I run the device software this comes up. I don't have a system administrator, and I am the primary user. Required Action: Click Cancel to exit this software installation. Log off and then log on as a user with administrator privileges. (Contact your system administrator for more information.) If there is no system administrator, have the primary user of this computer install the software. Restart the installation by removing and re-inserting this installation CD.

I went to use the scan option and it said I need to run the device software. I cannot find my original installation disk or sotware on the HP web site that allows me to use the scan option.

You may be the primary user but your user account may not have admin rights. This is a little unusual in Windows since most users have admin rights by default (this isn't a good security practice, but Windows tends to do this anyway).

I did a quick search of the web and discovered a set of instructions that will allow you to log into your Windows computer (assuming you have Windows XP) with admin rights. Once you do, run the software again and see if it works. If it does, you're ok. If it doesn't then the problem is with the HP software and not your user rights. Good luck:

HP OfficeJet 7210 scanner does not work "no sc an options you have to install or run device software"

The scan options are on your computer, you need to have HP scanning software running to tell the scanner how to scan the document where to send it and how to save it. No options means the scanned image would have nowhere to go.

Printer works, cannot scan (same issue as gemrise)

Yes, just like it says, you need a scanning software running on your computer, there are no options until you have the scanning software running and it knows where to send the image and how to save it.

Cannot save scans (HP F2180 on Windows XP)

Hi,

This happened to me (on XP) when I wasn't logged in as an administrator.

Logging in as an administrator should solve the problem.

Peace, Robert.

HP C6280 won't let me scan to the computer. Only options are "Scan & Reprint" or "Scan to Memory Card". I just want to save image directly on my computer but it doesn't let me. I've uninstalled and...

ergo your problem!!
You must have scanning software installed on your PC in order for the 2 devices to communicate. It should have come bundled on the CD you got with the printer. I believe the HP software is called HPDirector.
Please find on your PC or install from your CD & that will enable you to scan to your PC.
It may already be installed. You will need to run the software to enable communications between the 2 devices.

If you get the error while trying to scan with your HP 5610v All-In-One, the easy way to scan from your printer is to click on start, go to Paint and then File, the option "From Scanner or Camera" will come up.. click there and poof - you can scan anything you want and save it where you want... Problem solved!! good luck!!!

HP Officejet J5780 - NO SCAN OPTIONS

Problem Solved. I'm not sure what exactly was the answer but here is the steps I followed. First I went to the HP website and followed their procedure to uninstall hidden devices (namely duplicate HP devices). I uninstalled all of the devices. Then (with the USB cable still attached) I deleted the Printer and Scanner from Control Panel. At this point I disconnected the USB cable (the cable worked but the software wouldn't recognize the cable was attached). With the cable unattached, I uninstalled all the HP software with the 'remove software' program in control panel. The I used the original disk for the printer and reinstalled the software. Eventually the installation process prompted me to reinstall the USB cable. It was at this point the software started to recognize the cable again. And here is the best part, after the software finished installing the 'Scan To' button started working correctly!!!!
