Question about Canon PowerShot A80 Digital Camera

2 Answers

Canon A80 My camera is about 5 yrs old. The screen displays primarily fuzzy vertical lines and when I take a picture of this, it comes out the same as indicated by the camera screen. I read your analysis of this on the internet. I have never taken the camera apart in any way. Could you describe this and what tools might be needed?

My camera is also the A80. I have the fuzzy vertical lines, everything else seems to be working but when I take a photo, I just get the vertical colored fuzzy lines. Please help.

I followed the advice from others and sent the A80 camera off to Canon and they agreed that the problem was the CCD imager and they repaired same. Many thanks.

Canon is fixing this problem on my camera with no charge, It is a problem with the CCD imager that they either replace or send you a new refurbished (later model) camera). Sorry I don't have the specifics. Check the Canon website for details or call them. Thanks to this website for all the information!!

So camera doesn't give live view to take picture? and you can view old / stored  pictures OK, is it?
If yes, then it is problem of CCD imager in Canon A80 and this part needs to be replaced.

Vertical lines obscuring image

The matrix is dead. Probably because of an intensive light got into the lense while the camera was in night mode. It's dead. Nothing can be done.

Canon A80 CCD problem or something else?

Open the camera, look at the Flat-cable going from the CCD to the 'camera HW', there is a small connector where the latch mecanism is open,-meaning it does not put pressure on the commenctors and if you touch the flat-cable you can see the flicker/lines, simply use a pen tip to lock the connector latch again, or apply som glue to fix the connector.

Screen all fuzzy when taking photo.

What you have is a CCD issue. The CCD is the part of the camera that captures the images and stores it to the card. When the CCD goes bad it does some pretty funky things, including blurry, fuzzy or other weird things when they go bad.

Here is a link to an eBay auction with a CCD on it.
