I own a garmin c340 gps navigation system. It works fine except the last time I pulled it out of the box it was shipped in the volume control wheel was missing. It must be inside the unit or fell out. The unit still works but I have not volume. Any ideas of repair costs?? Thank you Paul Backus

I had the same problem. Found out that the fuse had blown in the power cord. I bought a new fuse from radio shack and have not had the low battery since.

GARMIN C340 VOLUME CONTROL

I had the same issue. My C340 fell of the dash and the volume control (potentiometer) broke off and was rattling inside the case. I tried to find a replacement (103B stamped on the pot) but have not been able to find one. I tried a mini 10K ohm pot from Radio Shack, but the posts were not properly positioned for the circuit board inside the Garmin.

I took the easy way (for now) and simply strapped the two control points together with a piece of wire giving me maximum volume. Orient the circuit board with the missing volume control to at the bottom right. The control mounts with 5 points, two on the right edge of the board are simply physical mounts. There are three other connection points just to the left in a slight arc. The top and bottom point have holes to place the legs of the pot. The broken off legs may still be in these holes. Solder a piece of wire between the top and bottom points. Be careful since the solder pads (to the left of the holes are very delicate.

Not an elegant filx, but you get the voice back.

My Garmin C340 is dead!!!!

I had the same problem on a trip. Required two fixes and once I did this the unit worked fine.
1. Replace the fuse in the car adapter (reason it wasn't charging when I used it in the car).
2. See the users manual on page 31 regarding resetting your C340.

Voice quit working

I assume you have made sure the volume knob on the right side of the unit is adjusted all the way up. Have you also made sure the volume icon has the volume up? Does the unit make any sounds at all?

GPS looses direction in city streets

If you are driving in a city with a lot of tall buildings, trees or elevated trains, the unit will lose the signal from the satellites. This is due to the GPS receiver used on the C340. It may help to place the unit in WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) mode. This uses ground information as well as satellites to help you navigate. Good luck.

Garmin c340 gps freezes up

Avoid buying Garmin GPS. Their units have a non user replaceable battery that last about 2 years. After that, you have to send the unit to Garmin to replace the battery and be hit with at least $150 plus shipping. Possibly more if they need to fine tune something else. Look at other brands with easier battery replacement such as Sony, Navigon, etc. Garmin is a total rip off.

Garmin C340 startup

The clue is that the voice is slowing and low pitch. The main processor time base has slowed... which means everything will be buggy.

First try would be to Reset the unit. Remove the face cover (GENTLY pry it loose by the fingernail groove directly under the GARMIN logo), press the RESET button, then reattach front cover... this is covered in the owners manual, available online.
If not, then it sounds like a hardware failure... time for a 1-800-800-1020 call (their customer service number)
