I'm getting the same problem, I think it's something to do with conflicting with my flash drive. All is well until I put in a flash drive and even take it out again. I then need to reboot the PC, there must be a fix for this!!

Some printer brands have a cute scheme that reads a "new" cartridge as good, but the refilled one has a small fuse link that is burned out by the printer. Try factory new cartridges. Unplug the printer power for a bit to reset the printer.
try a few things, your printer maintenance my need to be adjusted, such as settings. i have one at work and i hate it, canon printers are so non-user friendly. do you have both a black and a color cartridge in it, if so you will have to tell it in the maintenance settings, if you only have one or the other installed you have to put both in it wont print with only one cartridge. if you just bought it and still have everything that it came with...take it back and buy a lexmark.
