"My Handheld PC" and "Recycle Bin" icons disappeared

Why have the "My Handheld PC" and "Recycle Bin" icons disappeared after removing all the other shortcuts and "soft" resetting the device?

This problem is experienced after following performance suggestions found in third-party documentation, on web sites, or in newsgroups. These suggestions instruct users to remove all folders from the desktop of Handheld PC Pro device in order to speed screen-repaint rates. Applying these same steps on a Handheld PC 2000 device causes all desktop icons to disappear. Microsoft has documented this issue (in Q289674): http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q289/6/74.ASP To restore the My Handheld PC and Recycle Bin icons on the device, follow these steps: 1. Tap Start, tap Programs, and then tap Windows Explorer. 2. Tap the My Documents folder, tap Send To on the File menu, and then tap Desktop as Shortcut. 3. "Soft" reset the MobilePro. The My Handheld PC and Recycle Bin icons should return to the desktop. Note that you must have at least one folder or shortcut on the desktop in addition to the My Handheld PC and Recycle Bin icons, or else the problem will recur.

Check if the device is charged to full.
Recalibrate the screen. Remove the Screen protector and calibrate the screen.
Perform the Soft Reset on the device.

Perform the Hard Reset on the Device.

BB Desktop Manager Error: Unable to Connect to device


I found this in a BB forum of tech guys. So no credit goes to me but it may help your problem

Go to Device Manager and click on RIM Handheld in other devices, as there is no driver but the device is still detected (may be listed under other devices too)

Double click on the RIM/unknown device

Choose re-install driver and select "Install from a list or specific location"

Then choose "Don't Search ...."

Select USB Controllers, hit next then browes to:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\USB Drivers
And select RimUsbNT.sys (may appear as an .inf file too)

Hit next and you’re done.

It will ask for a restart…go ahead and restart

Uncradle the BB

Soft reset the BB with the pin-in-the-hole trick (keep uncradled) (5min or so till it will be ready to recradle…) wait for the hourglass to disappear.

once you are logged back in as the user… recradle the BB and it should install is RIM handheld

Resetting the Device

Sometimes there is a need to reset your Pocket PC. Resetting the
device is known as performing a "soft" or "hard" reset.

Performing a Soft Reset

A soft reset stops all running applications, but does not erase any
programs or saved data. Be sure to save any unsaved data within
a running application before performing a soft reset.
Perform a soft reset to:
■ Stop all running applications
■ Install a new application
■ Restart the Pocket PC if it stops responding

To perform a soft reset:

1. Locate the recessed Reset button on the bottom of your iPAQ
Pocket PC.
2. Use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button.
The Pocket PC restarts and displays the Today screen.




Performing a Hard Reset

Perform a hard reset only when you want to clear all
user-installed settings, applications, and data from RAM
(Random Access Memory), where data and applications you have
loaded are stored.

CAUTION: If you perform a hard reset, your Pocket PC loses all data
and programs not saved in iPAQ File Store.

To perform a hard reset:

1. Press and hold down the Calendar and iTask buttons.
2. While holding down these buttons, use the stylus to
lightly press the Reset button on the bottom of the iPAQ
Pocket PC for about two seconds.


3. When the Pocket PC screen begins to fade, release the
Calendar and iTask buttons first, and then remove the stylus
from the Reset button.

Note: If you simultaneously push and hold the Reset, Calendar,
and iTask buttons for more than two seconds, the battery
disconnects. To restart the device, either plug the device into the
AC Adapter or press the Reset button again.
After performing a hard reset, you may need to reinstall
applications stored in iPAQ File Store to restore shortcuts and full
functionality.

4. The Pocket PC resets and powers on.

To return your iPAQ Pocket PC to factory settings after
performing a hard reset:

1. Tap Start > Programs > File Explorer > My Device.
2. Tap the iPAQ File Store folder to open it.
3. Tap Edit > Select All.
4. Tap and hold the selected files, then tap Delete.
5. Tap Yes to delete all file in iPAQ File Store.

Memos soft resets device


Sounds like you may need to clean out your memos. Are you talking about the memo icon on the screen or do you have a memo button on the button panel. If you have a memo button, there may be something wrong with it, and you may have to use the icon.
